Development of a silica sol reinforced monetite cement matrix
Materials Technology, 2015The objective of this work was to develop silica sol-reinforced monetite cement matrix and study the related reinforcement kinetics. The preparation of monetite cement powder was done using a microwave processing method with active Ca2+ present on particles surface as effective silica bonding sites.

Bioactivity of strontium-monetite coatings for biomedical applications
Ceramics International, 2019Abstract The bioactivity of calcium phosphate (CaP) coatings can be controlled by different CaP phase precipitation and/or addition of foreign ions to their crystal lattice. Cationic substitution of strontium (Sr) into CaP coatings has gained a great attention due to the unique potential of Sr ions on stimulating new bone formation while inhibiting ...

A novel method of forming micro- and macroporous monetite cements
J. Mater. Chem. B, 2013Second to autologous bone grafts are the calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) used as synthetic bone substitutes due to their chemical similarity to the mineral component of bone. Their ability to conform to complex bone defects and excellent osteoconductivity also render them excellent scaffolds for bone tissue engineering, although they do have their own

Development of monetite/phosphorylated chitosan composite bone cement
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2013AbstractIn this article, we report the development of a biodegradable monetite [dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA), CaHPO4]/phosphorylated chitosan (p‐chitosan) composite orthopedic cement. The cement pastes showed desirable handling properties, injectability, and washout resistance.

A thermogravimetric method for the analysis of mixtures of brushite and monetite
The Analyst, 1970A thermogravimetric method is described for the quantitative analysis of mixtures of calcium hydrogen orthophosphate dihydrate (brushite) and anhydrous calcium hydrogen orthophosphate (monetite) based on their loss of water on heating. An extension to the method when the above system contains a third component of known weight loss is also discussed.

Formation of monetite nanoparticles and nanofibers in reverse micelles
Journal of Materials Science, 2007Reverse micelles solution of water and cyclohexane containing either cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) or polyoxyethylene-8-dodecyl ether (C12E8) surfactants and n-pentanol as co-surfactant have been used as organized reaction microenvironments for monetite (dicalcium phosphate anhydrous, DCPA) precipitation.

Development of monetite–nanosilica bone cement: A preliminary study
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2014AbstractIn this paper, we reported the results of our efforts in developing DCPA/nanosilica composite orthopedic cement. It is motivated by the significances of DCPA and silicon in bone physiological activities. More specifically, this paper examined the effects of various experimental parameters on the properties of such composite cements.

Effect of water on monetite synthesis in the solid state
Materials Chemistry and Physics, 1986Abstract Synthesis of calcium hydrogen phosphate CaHPO 4 can be carried out with a milling apparatus into which solid calcium dihydrogen phosphate Ca(H 2 PO 4 ) 2 .H 2 O and tricalcium phosphate Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 .1/6H 2 O mixtures are introduced. The effect of water vapor pressure P H 2 O on this reaction has been investigated. At a given temperature

Transformation of monetite to hydroxyapatite in bioactive coatings on titanium
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2001Abstract Calcium phosphates have a wide range of pH stability, depending on their Ca/P ratio. Under physiological conditions (pH ≈7), the most stable calcium phosphate is hydroxyapatite, Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 (OH) 2 . Acidic calcium phosphates, like dicalcium phosphate, CaHPO 4 (monetite) and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, CaHPO 4 ·2H 2 O (brushite), are ...
