Impaired Cellular Immunity and Cross‐Reactive Humoral Responses to Mpox Virus in HIV‐Infected Individuals Vaccinated with Vaccinia Virus Tiantan Strain

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study examines MPXV immunity in PLWH, focusing on smallpox vaccine‐induced responses. PLWH with CD4⁺ T‐cell counts <500 cells/mm3 showed reduced VTT‐IgG, MPXV‐IgG, and NAbs, while CD4⁺ T‐cell responses were impaired at counts <350 cells/mm3. CD8⁺ T‐cell responses remained stable.

Changes in HIV‐1 Reservoir Dynamics After Mpox Infection

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT In May 2022, a large outbreak of monkeypox virus (MPXV) occurred in several non‐endemic regions worldwide. Another outbreak in 2024 raised global concerns, particularly for immunocompromised individuals like people with HIV (PWH). Since the latent HIV‐1 reservoir remains a major barrier to a cure, we investigated how past mpox infection ...

Organoid Models to Study Human Infectious Diseases

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 58, Issue 11, November 2025.
Our manuscript reviews the role of organoids as models for studying human infectious diseases, highlighting their irreplaceable contributions to drug testing and vaccine development for significant infectious diseases including HIV, ZIKV, SARS‐CoV‐2 and MPXV.

PLoS Negl Trop Dis [PDF]

open access: yes
BackgroundHuman monkeypox (MPX) occurs at appreciable rates in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Infection with varicella zoster virus (VZV) has a similar presentation to that of MPX, and in areas where MPX is endemic these two illnesses are ...

Monkeypox virus (MPXV) isolation from longitudinal samples of 11 patients to infer risk of onwards transmission

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Introduction: Monkeypox virus (MPXV), a DNA virus in the genus Orthopoxvirus, causes the clinical disease mpox. Human-to-human transmission occurs, primarily through contact with infectious lesions. The cycle threshold (Ct) value at which mpox virus can be isolated varies in the literature.

One‐Pot Isothermal Nucleic Acid Amplification Assisted CRISPR/Cas Detection Technology: Challenges, Strategies, and Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 37, October 6, 2025.
This review combines the current status of CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat)‐based molecular diagnostic technology to expound the necessity and challenges faced in promoting the development of one‐pot detection. Besides, the focus is on a comprehensive summary and incisive analysis of emerging strategies for one‐pot ...

Clinical Manifestations of an Outbreak of Monkeypox Virus in Captive Chimpanzees in Cameroon, 2016 [PDF]

open access: yes
Monkeypox virus (MPXV) is a re-emerging virus of global concern. An outbreak of Clade I MPXV affected 20 captive chimpanzees in Cameroon in 2016. We describe the epidemiology, virology, phylogenetics, and clinical progression of this outbreak.

Characterization of Monkeypox virus infection in African rope squirrels (Funisciurus sp.).

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2017
Monkeypox (MPX) is a zoonotic disease endemic in Central and West Africa and is caused by Monkeypox virus (MPXV), the most virulent Orthopoxvirus affecting humans since the eradication of Variola virus (VARV). Many aspects of the MPXV transmission cycle,
