Modulation of the TGF‐β/Smad Signaling Pathway by a Bioactive Oxidized Polygonati Rhizoma Polysaccharide Crosslinked Chitosan Hydrogel as Therapeutic Carrier for Parkinson's Disease Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable, self‐healing COPRP hydrogel integrates structurally defined oxidized Polygonati rhizoma polysaccharide with carboxymethyl chitosan through dynamic Schiff‐base crosslinking. The bioactive matrix scavenges reactive oxygen species, suppresses neuroinflammation, protects dopaminergic neurons, and supports sustained levodopa release.

Cerebellar Abnormalities in the Neuroimaging Spectrum of CLTC‐Related Disorder

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pathogenic variants in CLTC, which encodes the clathrin heavy chain involved in vesicle‐mediated trafficking in neurons, cause a rare neurodevelopmental disorder associated with variable severity of global developmental delay and intellectual disability and structural brain abnormalities. Although corpus callosum and white matter anomalies are

Probiotic spore‐based bioresponsive drug delivery for reversing inflammatory bowel disease and its associated anxiety and depression

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A probiotic spore‐based drug delivery system (BCS‐Que@ApNPs) provides excellent targeted delivery, bioresponsive drug release, and long‐term retention (over 48 h), making it suitable for oral treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and its associated anxiety and depression.

Inhibitor design for monoamine oxidases

open access: yes, 2013
Flavin-containing monoamine oxidases (MAO A and MAO B) located on the outer membrane of mitochondria oxidise amines and generate hydrogen peroxide. Inhibitors alleviate depression by increasing neurotransmitter levels in the brain.

Computationally Assisted Lead Optimization of Novel Potent and Selective MAO-B Inhibitors

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
A series of dietary flavonoid acacetin 7-O-methyl ether derivatives were computationally designed aiming to improve the selectivity and potency profiles against monoamine oxidase (MAO) B.

Antidepressant Misuse in Esports: A Review of Pharmacology, Adverse Effects, Pharmacokinetics and Biomatrix‐Based Detection for Anti‐Doping Applications

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
This review highlights the misuse of antidepressants as potential cognitive‐enhancing agents in Esports. Despite pharmacological effects that overlap with those of psychostimulants, antidepressants remain an under‐recognised source of doping in Esports.

WONOEP appraisal: Biomarkers and treatment strategies beyond the synapse

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Epilepsy is a heterogeneous neurological disorder affecting more than 70 million people worldwide, posing significant challenges for clinicians due to its complex etiology, diverse manifestations, variable treatment responses, and the inability to predict seizures or disease onset reliably.

Monoamine oxidase in neuronal cell death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is an oxidative enzyme that deaminates a variety of amine substrates, including the neurotransmitter dopamine. The enzymatic reaction requires molecular oxygen and produces hydrogen peroxide as a by-product.

Activity of Novel Tryptophan Analogs against Mammalian and Trypanosomal Monoamine Oxidases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Monoamine oxidases were assayed in live Trypanosoma brucei brucei and in trypanosomal homogenate using the oxygen electrode method. Serotonin and tryptamine were used as standard monomine oxidase A and B substrates, respectively.

Lysyl Oxidase-like Protein Recognizes Viral Envelope Proteins and Bacterial Polysaccharides against Pathogen Infection via Induction of Expression of Antimicrobial Peptides

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Lysyl oxidases (LOXs) are copper-dependent monoamine oxidases, and they play critical roles in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. The LOX and LOX-like (LOXL) proteins also have a variety of biological functions, such as development and growth ...
