Monogenean Parasites of Fish

open access: yesEDIS, 2012
Monogeneans are a class of parasitic flatworms that are commonly found on fishes and lower aquatic invertebrates. Most monogeneans are browsers that move about freely on the fish’s body surface feeding on mucus and epithelial cells of the skin and gills;

Anthelmintic Efficacy of Rosemary Oil and Its Nanoemulsion Against the Monogenean Parasite, <i>Zeuxapta seriolae</i>, in Yellowtail Kingfish (<i>Seriola lalandi</i>). [PDF]

open access: yesAquac Nutr
This study evaluated the anthelmintic efficacy of rosemary oil delivered as a nanoemulsion compared with regular rosemary oil against the monogenean parasite Zeuxapta seriolae in yellowtail kingfish (YTK; Seriola lalandi). A 20‐day feeding trial tested three dietary treatments: two levels of regular rosemary oil (providing 0.85 and 1.7 g cineole·kg−1 ...

Genome-Wide Protein Interaction Analysis in Parasitic Gyrodactylus Flatworms-Fish Hosts System and Drug Target Identification. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Genomic data offer a powerful tool for studying the molecular interactions between parasites and their hosts, but they remain scarce for parasitic monogenean flatworms. This study presents the first high‐quality phased genome assembly for monogeneans (Gyrodactylus kobayashii), and uses it to predict key interacting proteins between monogenean parasite ‐

Assessment of Salinomycin’s Potential to Treat Microcotyle sebastis in Korean Rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii)

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Aquaculture, a crucial sector of the global food industry, faces a myriad of issues due to parasitic invasions. One such parasite, Microcotyle sebastis, which afflicts Korean rockfish in South Korea, has a significant economic impact.

Complete Mitochondrial Genome of <i>Gyrodactylus nigeri</i> (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The fish Yunnanilus niger is the host of Gyrodactylus nigeri. The mitochondrial genome of G. nigeri is 14,903 bp in length. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that this species belonged to the genus Gyrodactylus and Gyrodactylidae forms an independent monophyletic clade within Gyrodactylidea.

Distribution of host-specific parasites in hybrids of phylogenetically related fish: the effects of genotype frequency and maternal ancestry?

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
Background Host specificity is one of the outputs of the coevolution between parasites and their associated hosts. Several scenarios have been proposed to explain the pattern of parasite distribution in parental and hybrid genotypes ranging from hybrid ...

Albendazole is effective for controlling monogenean parasites of the gills of Piaractus brachypomus (Serrasalmidae) and Megaleporinus macrocephalus (Anostomidae)

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2022
Monogenean infestations can cause high mortality in farmed fish and therefore significant economic losses. The present study investigated the efficacy of albendazole in therapeutic baths against monogeneans of Piaractus brachypomus Cuvier, 1818 and ...

Morphological and molecular characterization of the monogenean gill parasite, Acleotrema maculatus, infecting Argyrops filamentosus fish in the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2023
Fish are considered one of the important sources of protein which are invaded by different parasites. This study aimed to shed light on monogenean parasites that infect fish within the family Sparidae in Saudi Arabia.

Exploring the Efficacy and Safety of Levamisole Hydrochloride against Microcotyle sebastis in Korean Rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii): An In Vitro and In Vivo Approach

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Parasitic infections pose significant challenges in aquaculture, and the increasing resistance to conventional anthelmintics necessitates the exploration of alternative treatments.

Microcotylidae (Monogena) parasites of snappers (Perciformes: Lutjanidae) collected from the northeast coast of Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2023
Monogeneans are a diverse group of flatworms, being ectoparasites of marine and freshwater fish, with great morphological and ecological variety. Analyzes of monogenetics in fish with great habitat diversity such as snappers are scarce in the literature,
