Diversity and distribution of parasites from potentially cultured freshwater fish in Nakhon Si Thammarat [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2005
Twenty-one species from 16 genera of potentially cultured freshwater fish were examined for external and internal parasites. Ten individuals of each fish species were sampled from various places in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Hematological parameters of Hoplias malabaricus (Characiformes: Erythrinidae) parasitized by Monogenea in lagoons in Pirassununga, Brazil

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária
Hematology is an important pathological and diagnostic tool. This paper describes the hematological parameters of 76 specimens of Hoplias malabaricus infested with monogenean parasites, which were collected from two lagoons.

Workshop no. 4. Biology of monogeneans

open access: yesParasitology, 1981
The oncomiracidia larvae of monogeneans are small, ciliated, relatively slow-moving organisms with a limited free-swimming life. For example, the oncomiracidium of the skin parasiteEntobdello, soleaeis 250 µm in length, swims at a speed of 5 mm/sec and lives for about 24 h (Kearn, 1967a).

Some aspects of monogenean existence.

open access: yesFolia parasitologica, 1978
This paper deals with some ecology and evolution problems of monogeneans--gill parasites of fishes, such as congeneric simultaneous doublets, spatial distribution of species on the gills, interspecific restrictions of biotopes etc. The author proves competitive character of site selection in monogeneans. The role of hermaphroditism in the evolution and
