Antibacterial activity of human mononuclear leukocytes againstStaphylococcus aureus
Folia Microbiologica, 1994Human mononuclear leukocytes kill Staphylococcus aureus cells in vitro. The killing of the bacteria takes place even in the absence of antibodies. The presence of antibodies (in an autologous inactivated serum) usually enhances the antibacterial activity of mononuclear leukocytes. In some cases, however, this activity is markedly decreased by the serum,

AbstractThe production of interleukin‐I (IL‐I) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) by tumor‐associated mononuclear leukocytes (TAML) and peripheral mononuclear leukocytes (PBML) from 9 otherwise untreated patients with a variety of malignancies (lung, sarcoma, stomach, renal) was assessed.

C5a: A Chemotactic Factor for Mononuclear Leukocytes
The Journal of Immunology, 1971Abstract Cleavage of guinea pig C5 results in the release of a biologically active fragmentation product (C5a) which enhances vascular permeability, contracts smooth muscle and is chemotactic for guinea pig and rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs).

An in vitro test able to demonstrate phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-induced migration inhibition of human peripheral blood leukocytes was investigated. The migration inhibition was demonstrated by the agarose migration technique. Purified mononuclear leukocytes which had been incubated for 30 min with PHA, then washed and added to non-separated leukocytes ...

Determination of beta adrenoceptor density on rabbit mononuclear leukocytes
Journal of Pharmacological Methods, 1988The purpose of the present study was to devise a technique for the isolation of a relatively homogeneous mononuclear leukocyte (MNL) preparation from rabbit whole blood and determine the density and affinity of beta-adrenoceptors on MNL. A modified method based upon that by Böyum was developed to maximize isolation of MNL from red blood cells (RBC ...

Glucocorticoid receptors of mononuclear leukocytes from myasthenia gravis patients
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2009The present study was performed to analyse glucocorticoid receptor (GR) binding in peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (MNL) from 39 myasthenia gravis (MG) patients (unoperated patients (n = 13), thymectomized patients (n = 14) and patients receiving glucocorticoids: thymectomized (n = 11) and unoperated (n = 6]. A whole cell binding assay with 3(H)

Uptake of nickel(II) by human peripheral mononuclear leukocytes
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 1986Dithiocarbamate-mediated nickel(II) uptake by human peripheral mononuclear leukocytes (mostly lymphocytes) was examined. The lipophilic ligands diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC) and ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) enhanced the cellular association of nickel(II), while ammonium dithiocarbamate (AD) had no effect.

Cathepsin D activity in human peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes
Inflammation, 1989To investigate the cellular origins of cathepsin D (CD) in inflammatory lesions, the CD content of lymphocyte subsets, monocytes, and macrophages were compared. Human monocytes, B lymphocytes, CD4+ T lymphocytes, and CD8+ T lymphocytes were separated from peripheral blood of normal donors.

Characterization of β-adrenoceptor subtypes in rabbit mononuclear leukocytes
European Journal of Pharmacology, 1989Computer analysis of [125I]iodocyanopindolol competition studies using the relatively selective beta 1-adrenoceptor antagonist, ICI 89406, and the beta 2-selective antagonist, ICI 118551, on rabbit mononuclear leukocyte plasmalemmal preparations favored a two-site model indicating that both beta 1- and beta 2-adrenoceptor subtypes were present in ...

Glucocorticoid receptors on mononuclear leukocytes in polycystic ovary syndrome
International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 1998Many studies have suggested that there is a possible hormonal dysregulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and an increased cortisol clearance in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Therefore in this study, we have examined the role of glucocorticoid receptor/s (GR) characteristics in the developing of these abnormalities in ...
