Stability and Phase Separation in Mixed Monopolar Lipid/Bolalipid Layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The phase stability of a fluid lipid layer that is a mixture of conventional monopolar lipids and C20 bipolar bolalipids was studied using a mean field theory that explicitly includes molecular details and configurational properties of the lipid ...

Interlayer‐Sliding‐Enabled Multiferroicity and Giant Switchable Anomalous Hall Conductivity in RuO2Zn2F2 Bilayer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Interlayer sliding in the RuO2Zn2F2 bilayer induces ferroelectricity and enables reversible valley polarization switching. The electric dipole and valley‐resolved band edges are intimately coupled, revealing sliding ferroelectricity as a powerful mechanism for electrical control of valley degrees of freedom in 2D materials.

Preserving Motor Features by Alternative Re‐Referencing to Remove Heart Artifact on the Stentrode

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endovascular brain‐computer interfaces record neural activity from within cerebrovasculature, at the expense of electrocardiogram contamination. Band‐limited independent component analysis separates this heart‐based artifact from task‐relevant neural activity in each frequency band, enabling the reconstruction of cleaner neural recordings without the ...

Monopolar and bipolar stimulation of the brain

open access: yes, 1962
Intracranial self-stimulation experiments in the dog using a two-wire electrode, with each wire used as a monopolar electrode and the combination as a bipolar electrode, show that monopolar stimulation may produce either a higher or a lower rate of ...

Asymmetric Evolution of Antennal Cell Types Underlies a Derived Ammonia‐Sensing Logic for Ecological Adaptation in Bactrocera dorsalis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative antennal single‐nucleus transcriptomics reveals cell‐type‐dependent transcriptomic divergence in Bactrocera dorsalis, with similar structural cells but divergent sensory neurons. This neuronal diversification is associated with a distinct ammonia‐sensing pathway, linking female attraction to bird‐dropping‐associated cues with nutritional ...

Transparent Topological Meta‐Diplexer via Tightly Confined Valley Surface States

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An optically transparent topological metasurface supporting tightly confined valley surface states enables robust and flexible wave routing in an ultrathin platform. A compact transparent meta‐diplexer with spatially and spectrally separated channels is realized, while communication experiments verify high‐fidelity signal transmission, opening new ...

Fatigue‐Driven Adaptive Assistance for a Semi‐Active Upper‐Limb Occupational Exoskeleton

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Physical fatigue during a physical activity is estimated in real time to enable adaptive exoskeleton assistance. By continuously adjusting the level of support according to the user’s fatigue, this approach reduces physical demand and provides a pathway toward personalized exoskeleton assistance.

A review of monopolar motor mapping and a comprehensive guide to continuous dynamic motor mapping for resection of motor eloquent brain tumors.

open access: yes, 2017
Monopolar mapping of motor function differs from the most commonly used method of intraoperative mapping, i.e. bipolar direct electrical stimulation at 50-60Hz (Penfield technique mapping). Most importantly, the monopolar probe emits a radial, homogenous

How to halve ploidy : lessons from budding yeast meiosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Maintenance of ploidy in sexually reproducing organisms requires a specialized form of cell division called meiosis that generates genetically diverse haploid gametes from diploid germ cells.
