Superior Labial Artery Flap for Septal Perforation Repair: The Boxer's Flap

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The nasal floor flap, or Boxer's flap, is an anteriorly pedicled, superior labial artery–based mucosal flap that provides excellent closure rates in septal perforation repair when traditional septal flaps are not feasible. The schematic shows: (A) preoperative perforation, (B) nasal floor flap elevation (with the pedicle maintained at the inferior ...

Sentio Bone‐Conduction Implant: Early Outcomes in Patients With Conductive or Mixed Hearing Loss

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the initial clinical outcomes, safety, and audiological performance of the Sentio active bone‐conduction implant in patients with conductive or mixed hearing loss. Implantation resulted in significant improvements in hearing thresholds, speech recognition, speech perception in noise, and patient‐reported hearing benefit, with no ...

Cranial Vault and Scalp Reconstruction Utilizing Anterolateral Thigh Free Tissue Transfer

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The anterolateral thigh free flap with perforator harvest and minimal access recipient vessel procurement technique offers an adaptable and effective reconstructive option for a wide variety of complex scalp and cranial vault defects. There were no significant differences in outcomes or complications of the three flap types analyzed (fasciocutaneous ...

Evaluating the Local Response of a Novel Injectable Capsule for Drug Delivery in the Trachea

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
A novel PLGA polymer capsule was developed for localized pretracheal drug delivery and evaluated for short‐term local tissue safety in a rabbit model. Implant placement was confirmed by ultrasound and was well tolerated over 14 days, with preservation of airway patency, native tracheal architecture, and biomechanical properties.

7 T MRI Connectivity‐Guided Reprogramming Improves Deep Brain Stimulation Motor Outcome in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is an established treatment for Parkinson's disease (PD). Using 7‐Tesla (7 T) MRI connectivity analysis to visualize the patient‐specific STN motor subdivision, we hypothesize that reprogramming patients who are stimulated outside of this subdivision can improve their ...

Hardware Sophistications in Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease; Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze?

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background New sophisticated deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems enabling steering of current and aiming at improving further motor outcome and decreasing side effects have virtually replaced old omnidirectional systems, despite being more labor‐intensive and expensive.

Monopolar electrocautery causes pelvic neurovascular injury: a histological and stereological study in rabbits

open access: yesFolia Morphologica
BACKGROUND: Electrosurgical devices are widely used in penile surgery for hemostasis and tissue dissection. However, the neurovascular risks associated with monopolar electrocautery, particularly in the context of pelvic innervation and vascular supply ...
