Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Modular inequalities for the Hardy averaging operator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
summary:If $P$ is the Hardy averaging operator - or some of its generalizations, then weighted modular inequalities of the form \int u \phi(Pf) \leq C\int v \phi(f) are established for a general class of functions $\phi$. Modular inequalities for the two-

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

A new generalized APPA for maximal monotone operators

open access: yesApplied Mathematics Letters, 2008
This paper deals with the following problem: given the point-to-set mapping \(\hat T:{\mathbb{R}}^n\to 2^{{\mathbb{R}}^n}\), \(\hat T=T+N_{\Omega},\) where \(T\) is a maximal monotone operator on \({\mathbb{R}}^n\) and \(N_{\Omega}\) is the normal cone operator with respect to a closed and convex subset \(\Omega\), find a point \(x\in \Omega\) such ...

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Integrals Based on Monotone Measure: Optimization Tools and Special Functionals

open access: yes, 2015
Part 1: Full Keynote and Invited PapersInternational audienceIntegrals on finite spaces (e.g., sets of criteria in multicriteria decision support) based on capacities are discussed, axiomatized and examplified. We introduce first the universal integrals,

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

General monotonicity, interpolation of operators, and applications

open access: yes, 2014
We continue the work of S. Tikhonov, E. Liflyand, B. Booton, and others, proving the equivalence of L(p,q)-norms of general monotone functions and of their Fourier transforms. The main tool in this work is the interpolation properties of cones of general monotone functions in L(p,q)-norms.
