Evaluating the Utilities of Foundation Models in Single‐Cell Data Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delivers the first systematic, task‐level evaluation of single‐cell foundation models across eight core analytical tasks. By benchmarking 10 leading models with the scEval framework, it reveals where foundation models truly add value, where task‐specific methods still dominate, and provides concrete, reproducible guidelines to steer the next

Cognitive Trajectories from Preclinical Alzheimer's Disease to Dementia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A continuous, multi‐domain characterization of cognitive decline across the Alzheimer's disease spectrum identifies when individual cognitive measures become abnormal. Episodic memory declines first, followed by executive function, language, processing speed, and visuospatial abilities, supporting improved clinical interpretation and optimized endpoint

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Regularized monotonic regression

open access: yes, 2016
Monotonic (isotonic) Regression (MR) is a powerful tool used for solving a wide range of important applied problems. One of its features, which poses a limitation on its use in some areas, is that it produces a piecewise constant fitted response. For smoothing the fitted response, we introduce a regularization term in the MR formulated as a least ...

A Soft, Flexible Implant for Wireless Photothermal–Pyroelectric Neurostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A replication strategy is used to enlarge the exposed surface area of barium titanate within flexible films with embedded carbon nanotubes, enabling efficient photothermal‐pyroelectric stimulation. Polar crystalline nanosheets show superior performance in guiding neural progenitor cells toward neuronal differentiation.

Determinants of farm profit among cassava-based farming households in Osun State Nigeria: robust estimation approach

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture
The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method is widely adopted in studies estimating net profit generation among farmers, despite its strong tendency to produce misleading estimates, particularly when one or more fundamental assumptions are violated.

Functional Mapping of Neurodevelopmental Disease Pathways to Key Neurodevelopmental Processes Represented in the Developmental Neurotoxicity In Vitro Testing Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human‐relevant methods are essential for modern chemical safety assessment. This study helps define the capabilities and boundaries of an in vitro testing battery for developmental neurotoxicity by exploring its biological applicability domain. By linking neurodevelopmental disease‐related pathways to key neurodevelopmental processes, the work enhances

AI‐Assisted Self‐Powered Wearable Dual‐Mode Sensor With TENG and Stretchable Optical Fiber for Neurological Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This manuscript presents the WDMS platform, an AI‐assisted, self‐powered wearable dual‐mode sensor for tele‐neurology. It integrates a contact–separation TENG insole with stretchable polyurethane optical‐fiber strain sensors to synchronously track plantar pressure and lower‐limb muscle deformation.

Prediction of Noise Levels According to Some Exploitation Parameters of an Agricultural Tractor: A Machine Learning Approach

open access: yesAgriEngineering
The paper presents research on measuring and the possibility of prediction of noise levels on the left and right sides of the operator within the cabin of an agricultural tractor when moving across various agrotechnical surfaces, considering movement ...

Monotone Regression Splines in Action

open access: yesStatistical Science, 1988
Piecewise polynomials or splines extend the advantages of polynomials to include greater flexibility, local effects of parameter changes and the possibility of imposing useful constraints on estimated functions. Among these constraints is monotonicity, which can be an important property in many curve estimation problems. This paper shows the virtues of
