Polymer‐Crosslinking System‐Filler Interactions in Polychloroprene Adhesives: Experimental and Molecular Modeling Insights

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The use of polychloroprene is common in elastomeric adhesives. This study highlights the possible substitution of zinc oxide curing systems to a less hazardous metal complex, also evaluating the changes that higher surface area fillers can bring to the adhesive.

Performance of binary accelarator system on natural rubber compound

open access: yesMajalah Kulit, Karet, dan Plastik, 2018
Accelerator system provides different response onto the rubber compound, and in turn influences its final properties. Accelerators, such as 2,2'-Dithiobis (benzothiazole) (MBTS), N-Cyclohexylbenzothiazole-2-Sulfenamide (CBS) and diphenyl guanidine (DPG),

Elastic Models for the Non-Arrhenius Relaxation Time of Glass-Forming Liquids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We first review the phenomenology of viscous liquids and the standard models used for explaining the non-Arrhenius average relaxation time. Then the focus is turned to the so-called elastic models, arguing that these models are all equivalent in the ...

A review of factors affecting precision in Mooney viscosity measurement

open access: yesPolymer Testing, 1980
Abstract Mooney viscosity is the most widely used processability criterion in the rubber industry. Since 1934 when Mooney developed the viscometer1, a great deal of work has been done to eliminate machine and test method deficiencies and variables, thereby increasing the reproducibility of Mooney viscosity measurements.

Finite Element Modeling of a Thermoplastic Polyurethane Ball for Rolling Seismic Isolation

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Elastomeric‐Ball Pendulum (EBP) system, which consists of an elastomeric ball rolling on a spherical concrete surface, has been proposed as an isolation system for lightweight structures. Experimental tests have shown that the mechanics of such a rolling ball are remarkably complicated because the vertical load changes the shape of the ...

Mechanical Reinforcement of Polymer Nanocomposites with Different Network Structure of Polymer Grafted Nanoparticles

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Due to the different conformation structures of the grafting chains on the surface of silica, the nanoparticles contact each other by brush chains and bridge into a polymer‐mediated nanoparticle network in HDPE14K/HDPE1K‐g‐SiO2 PNCs, resulting in a more significant modulus reinforcement than that of PP370K/PP90K‐g‐SiO2 PNCs with a soft interfacial ...

Hierarchical cross-linking in physical alginate gels: a rheological and dynamic light scattering investigation

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the dynamics of alginate gels, an important class of biopolymer-based viscoelastic materials, by combining mechanical tests and non-conventional, time-resolved light scattering methods.

Mechanical Performance Under Compressive Load of Carboxylated Nitrile Rubber and Kraft Lignin Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Lignin dispersion in carboxylated nitrile rubber (XNBR) is enhanced at 7% carboxylic acid, significantly improving the composite's compressive mechanical performance for sealing applications. ABSTRACT Lignin is a promising biobased material that enhances the sustainability of rubber composites as a reinforcing filler.
