Attachment discs of the diving bell spider Argyroneta aquatica

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
To adhere their silk threads for the construction of webs and to fix the dragline, spiders produce attachment discs of piriform silk. Uniquely, the aquatic spider Argyroneta aquatica spends its entire life cycle underwater.

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase is associated to the nucleus of HL-60 cells and is involved in their ATRA-induced granulocytic differentiation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2009
Phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI 3-kinases), a class of enzymes implicated in growth factor-induced mitogenic response and many other intracellular signalling pathways, act by phosphorylation at the D-3’-OH position of the myo-inositol ring of ...

Effect of antioxidant treatment with n-acetylcysteine and swimming on lipid expression of sebaceous glands in diabetic mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The sebaceous gland (SG) is involved in different inflammatory, infectious and neoplastic processes of the skin and can be related to specific diseases, e.g., diabetes mellitus.

Graph Spectral Characterization of Brain Cortical Morphology

open access: yes, 2019
The human brain cortical layer has a convoluted morphology that is unique to each individual. Characterization of the cortical morphology is necessary in longitudinal studies of structural brain change, as well as in discriminating individuals in health ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.
