Smoothing methods for the analysis of mortality development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
La mortalidad, entendida como el riesgo de muerte, cambia con la edad, y además presenta cambios sistemticos con el tiempo, al menos durante los últimos 150 años.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

On the construction of a Table of Mortality [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the Actuarial Society of Edinburgh, 1901
Gentlemen,—Allow me to thank you very cordially for electing me to preside over your meetings during the ensuing Session It is an honour very greatly appreciated by every one who has been selected to fill this chair. Indeed I feel doubly honoured, seeing that I am the first to address you in the new Hall of the Faculty of Actuaries under the gaze of ...

Forecasting Mortality Rate Using a Neural Network with Fuzzy Inference System [PDF]

open access: yes
Various methods have been developed to improve mortality forecasts. The authors proposed a neuro-fuzzy model to forecast the mortality. The forecasting of mortality is curried out by an ANFIS model which uses a first order Sugeno-type FIS.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Inequality and Infant and Childhood Mortality in the United States in the Twentieth Century [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper deals with the issue of using infant and childhood mortality as an indicator of inequality. The case is that of the United States in the 20th century. Using microdata from the 1900 and 1910 Integrated Public Use Microsamples (IPUMS), published

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

On the Calculation of Tables of Mortality [PDF]

open access: yesThe Assurance Magazine and Journal of the Institute of Actuaries
In order perfectly to obtain its object, a table of mortality must exhibit the actual mortality at the different ages; and to be of any practical use, we should be able from the results of the past to predict events for the future. The actual mortality can only be directly determined by knowing the population, as well as the number of deaths, which ...

Life Tables in the Measurement of Mortality and Longevity [PDF]

open access: yesPublic Health Reports (1896-1970), 1961
THE LIFE table, which provides detailed information on survival, has numerous applications. In public health, the life table may be used in assessing the health status, health trends, and health needs of communities. In addition, the life table is a basic tool in demography and is frequently used in estimating, projecting, and analyzing population ...

Seasonal mortality in Denmark [PDF]

open access: yes
Our paper addresses two questions on seasonal mortality: How do women and men differ with respect to seasonal fluctuations in mortality? How does seasonality in death change with age?
