Co-electroporation of rice protoplasts with RNAs of cucumber mosaic and tobacco mosaic viruses

Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) RNA was used to study electroporation conditions suitable for protoplasts from rice suspension cultures. Rice protoplasts required a stronger and shorter electric pulse than tobacco protoplasts for introduction of viral RNA. Under optimized conditions, CMV infection was established in 65 % of electroporated protoplasts.

Genomic masking in mixed infections with brome mosaic and barley stripe mosaic viruses

Abstract Barley plants infected with both barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) and brome mosaic virus (BMV) had more severe symptoms than plants infected with either virus alone, although the viruses were present in lower concentrations than in singly infected plants.

The components of barley stripe mosaic and related viruses

Abstract Natural isolates of barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) and the related viruses, lychnis ringspot virus (LRSV) and poa semilatent virus (PSLV), generally contain at least 3 RNA components, although some BSMV isolates contain only two. RNA components with apparent molecular weights of 1.4 and 1.25 million are common to all these viruses.

STUDIES ON CLOVER YELLOW MOSAIC AND WHITE CLOVER MOSAIC VIRUSES

Two viruses, clover yellow mosaic (CYMV) and white clover mosaic (WCMV), were separated from mixed natural infections of various clovers by inoculation of differential hosts. The host reactions of four CYMV and two WCMV isolates were studied in detail. Precipitin tests showed that the two viruses are not related serologically.

Mosaic on leaves, necrosis, stunting and flower symptoms were observed in lisianthus ( Eustoma russellianum ) raised from seed. Three viruses, bean yellow mosaic (BYMV), cucumber mosaic (CMV) and tobacco mosaic (TMV), were isolated.
