Small molecules as arthropod kinin receptor antagonists, feeding modulators, or novel mosquitocidal agents

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
A two‐pronged screen of small molecules – (1) on recombinant kinin receptor and (2) through topical application – identifies kinin receptor antagonists, feeding behavior modulators, and new mosquitocidal molecules. Abstract BACKGROUND Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes are primary vectors for numerous human and animal pathogens and ...

Long‐term impact of exposure to Royal Guard, a pyriproxyfen‐based bed net, on pyrethroid‐resistant malaria vectors from Cameroon using DNA‐based metabolic resistance markers

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2165-2180, April 2025.
We used recently detected P450 DNA‐based markers of pyrethroid resistance in both Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae to demonstrate that although pyrethroid‐resistant mosquitoes have higher ability to survive and live longer after exposure to Royal Guard, this net significantly affects their lifespan, blood feeding ability and interestingly ...

Humean Effective Strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In a now-classic paper, Nancy Cartwright argued that the Humean conception of causation as mere regular co-occurrence is too weak to make sense of our everyday and scientific practices.

Spatial gene drives and pushed genetic waves

open access: yes, 2017
Gene drives have the potential to rapidly replace a harmful wild-type allele with a gene drive allele engineered to have desired functionalities. However, an accidental or premature release of a gene drive construct to the natural environment could ...

Illegal Gold Mining in the Brazilian Amazon: Environmental Degradation in Yanomami Indigenous Lands, and Regulatory Failures

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Illegal gold mining has emerged as a major sustainability threat in the Amazon, eroding Indigenous rights, forest integrity, and climate mitigation efforts. This study examines how international market incentives relate to the expansion of illegal mining and associated deforestation within the Yanomami Indigenous Territory (YIT) from 2008 to ...

Robust Bioconjugated Antigens Induce Immune Responses Preventing Malaria Infection and its Transmission

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Engineered malaria antigens enable in vivo bioconjugation to submicron biopolymer particles in E. coli. Two antigens are co‐tethered at high density and defined stoichiometry. The resulting thermostable particles elicit strong, durable antibody and T‐cell responses, conferring robust protection and blocking mosquito transmission.
