Motor-motor adaptation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
Perceptuomotor adaptation experiments have demonstrated that a purely perceptual task can have a significant effect upon a subsequent production task. Cooper has argued that these perceptual effects upon production reflect a link between the cognitive systems underlying perception and production.

Motor Learning

Comprehensive Physiology, 2019
ABSTRACTMotor learning encompasses a wide range of phenomena, ranging from relatively low‐level mechanisms for maintaining calibration of our movements, to making high‐level cognitive decisions about how to act in a novel situation. We survey the major existing approaches to characterizing motor learning at both the behavioral and neural level.

Motor Neuroprostheses

Comprehensive Physiology, 2019
ABSTRACTNeuroprostheses (NPs) are electrical stimulators that activate nerves, either to provide sensory input to the central nervous system (sensory NPs), or to activate muscles (motor NPs: MNPs). The first MNPs were belts with inbuilt batteries and electrodes developed in the 1850s to exercise the abdominal muscles.

Motor Stereotypies

Seminars in Pediatric Neurology, 2009
Stereotypic movements are ubiquitous, occur in a variety of forms, and exist in different populations, ranging from individuals with autism to typically developing children. Although such movements are required to be restricted, repetitive, and purposeless, their definition and included activities remain broad and imprecise.

Motor learning

Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1993
Bilateral damage of the medial temporal lobe system prevents the formation of new declarative memories but leaves intact knowledge that was acquired before damage. For motor learning, no structure has been identified that plays a comparable role for the consolidation of motor memories.

Motor Syndromes

2012
Motor disturbances alone or associated with other focal deficits are the most common symptoms suggesting a neurovascular event. An appropriate clinical assessment of these signs and symptoms may help physicians to better diagnose and to both better treat and predict outcome.

Motor Control

Clinics in Sports Medicine, 1984
The acquisition of motor skills involves learning, memory, and transfer as well as attention. The aspects of motor control most relevant for everyday practice are the conditions of practice, the knowledge of results, and the assessment of athletes to identify talented performers.

Motor Planning

The Neuroscientist, 2014
Motor planning colloquially refers to any process related to the preparation of a movement that occurs during the reaction time prior to movement onset. However, this broad definition encompasses processes that are not strictly motor-related, such as decision-making about the identity of task-relevant stimuli in the environment.

Motor Vehicles and Motors

2014
'Cheap or rapid or convenient road transport for man and goods is one of the most important of all contributions to national comfort and prosperity.' An early evangelist for the automobile, William Worby Beaumont (1848–1929) drew on his engineering background to produce the first volume of this work in 1900, when motor vehicles were still relatively ...
