Automatic motor activation in the executive control of action [PDF]
Although executive control and automatic behavior have often been considered separate and distinct processes, there is strong emerging and convergent evidence that they may in fact be intricately interlinked. In this review, we draw together evidence showing that visual stimuli cause automatic and unconscious motor activation, and how this in turn has ...

Learning fast accurate movements requires intact frontostriatal circuits
The basal ganglia are known to play a crucial role in movement execution, but their importance for motor skill learning remains unclear. Obstacles to our understanding include the lack of a universally accepted definition of motor skill learning ...

fMRI evidence of ‘mirror’ responses to geometric shapes [PDF]
Mirror neurons may be a genetic adaptation for social interaction [1]. Alternatively, the associative hypothesis [2], [3] proposes that the development of mirror neurons is driven by sensorimotor learning, and that, given suitable experience, mirror ...

Motor skill learning between selection and execution [PDF]
Learning motor skills evolves from the effortful selection of single movement elements to their combined fast and accurate production. We review recent trends in the study of skill learning which suggest a hierarchical organization of the representations that underlie such expert performance, with premotor areas encoding short sequential movement ...

A Deep Learning Approach for Brain Computer Interaction-Motor Execution EEG Signal Classification
Recently Noninvasive Electroencephalogram (EEG) systems are gaining much attention. Brain-computer Interface (BCI) systems rely on EEG analysis to identify the mental state of the user, change in cognitive state and response to the events.

Motor initiation and execution in patients with conversion paralysis
Motor initiation and motor execution in four patients with conversion paralysis were investigated in a non-affected motor modality (speech). In line with the hypothesis of dissociated control in conversion disorder [Cognit. Neuropsychiatry 8 (1) (2001) 21] motor initiation, but not response duration, was expected to be impaired.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
