The Influence of the Hardness of the Tested Material and the Surface Preparation Method on the Results of Ultrasonic Testing

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Non-destructive ultrasonic testing can be used to assess the properties and condition of real machine elements during their operation, with limited (one-sided) access to these elements.

Partially Regular Microreliefs Formed by Rotation

open access: yesConstruction Materials
A new scheme for forming partially regular microreliefs by rotational rolling is proposed. A new transcendental curve-shaped, partially regular microrelief (of a trochoid type) is discussed; the shape and geometric parameters of its grooves are ...

Acetone and nanoparticles effect on performance and exhaust emissions of a diesel engine

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
This research investigated the effects of acetone and metal nano magnesium oxides (MNMgOs) on combustion and emissions in diesel engines. Tests were conducted at various load conditions at a speed of 1500 rpm.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Determination of Combustion Process Model Parameters in Diesel Engine with Variable Compression Ratio

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, 2018
Compression ratio has very important influence on fuel economy, emission, and other performances of internal combustion engines. Application of variable compression ratio in diesel engines has a number of benefits, such as limiting maximal in cylinder ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The Influence of Laser Alloying with Boron on the Condition and Properties of the Surface Layer of Selected Iron Alloys

open access: yesLubricants
This article presents the effect of laser alloying with boron on the surface layer of iron alloys: steel and grey cast iron. The general goal of this review is to specify the main differences that can be expected after this treatment of selected iron ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Modification of the Surface Layer of Grey Cast Iron by Laser Heat Treatment

open access: yesLubricants
This paper presents possible modifications to the properties of grey cast iron by laser heat treatment. These modifications are analyzed especially with regard to wear properties as a result of graphite content, which is a well-known solid lubricant ...
