Forecasting Security Returns With Simple Moving Averages
This study examines the ability of simple moving averages to forecast security returns. Five moving average variants are used to develop a forecasting model using OLS regression for the DJIA, NASDAQ, TSX and CAD-US exchange rate. The forecasting model is

Use of Binary Cumulative Sums and Moving Averages in Nosocomial Infection Cluster Detection
Clusters of nosocomial infection often occur undetected, at substantial cost to the medical system and individual patients. We evaluated binary cumulative sum (CUSUM) and moving average (MA) control charts for automated detection of nosocomial clusters ...

A technical approach to equity investing in South Africa: A tale of two indexes
This research uses Simple Moving Averages and four other well-known indicators to investigate the usefulness of the Technical Analysis approach to the Johannesburg stock exchange (JSE) in South Africa.

Logarithmic moving averages [PDF]
We introduce a moving average summability method, which is proved to be equivalent with the logarithmic $\ell$-method. Several equivalence and Tauberian theorems are given. A strong law of large numbers is also proved.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Associations between changes in city and address specific temperature and QT interval--the VA Normative Aging Study. [PDF]
The underlying mechanisms of the association between ambient temperature and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are not well understood, particularly for daily temperature variability.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
