Self-balancing beam permits safe, easy load handling under overhang [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
The use of a self-balancing I-beam with a counterweight and motor simplifies moving heavy loads that are inaccessible for cranes. The beam cannot be overloaded, as the counterweight will not balance the load, and thus acts as an automatic safety ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Topology optimization for elastic base under rectangular plate subjected to moving load

open access: yesArchives of Control Sciences, 2015
Distribution optimization of elastic material under elastic isotropic rectangular thin plate subjected to concentrated moving load is investigated in the present paper. The aim of optimization is to damp its vibrations in finite (fixed) time.

Dynamic Load Test and Contact Force Analysis of the AERORail Structure

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The flexible structure of the new type of aerial track studied in this paper is formed by strings and tracks, which have obvious dynamic characteristics under the action of vehicle moving loads and is also an important factor affecting its performance ...

Moving mesh finite element simulation for phase-field modeling of brittle fracture and convergence of newton's iteration

open access: yes, 2017
A moving mesh finite element method is studied for the numerical solution of a phase-field model for brittle fracture. The moving mesh partial differential equation approach is employed to dynamically track crack propagation. Meanwhile, the decomposition

A micro electromagnetic generator for vibration energy harvesting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Vibration energy harvesting is receiving a considerable amount of interest as a means for powering wireless sensor nodes. This paper presents a small (component volume 0.1 cm3, practical volume 0.15 cm3) electromagnetic generator utilizing discrete ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Crack Identification in Cantilever Beam under Moving Load Using Change in Curvature Shapes

open access: yesComputation, 2022
Cracks in structural components may ultimately lead to failure of the structure if not identified sufficiently early. This paper presents a crack-identification method based on time-domain.

Model-based Aeroservoelastic Design and Load Alleviation of Large Wind Turbine Blades

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents an aeroservoelastic modeling approach for dynamic load alleviation in large wind turbines with trailing-edge aerodynamic surfaces. The tower, potentially on a moving base, and the rotating blades are modeled using geometrically non ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
