Impaired Cellular Immunity and Cross‐Reactive Humoral Responses to Mpox Virus in HIV‐Infected Individuals Vaccinated with Vaccinia Virus Tiantan Strain

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study examines MPXV immunity in PLWH, focusing on smallpox vaccine‐induced responses. PLWH with CD4⁺ T‐cell counts <500 cells/mm3 showed reduced VTT‐IgG, MPXV‐IgG, and NAbs, while CD4⁺ T‐cell responses were impaired at counts <350 cells/mm3. CD8⁺ T‐cell responses remained stable.

Advancing the understanding and management of Mpox: insights into epidemiology, disease pathways, prevention, and therapeutic strategies [PDF]

open access: yes
Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a zoonotic viral disease caused by the Mpox virus (MPXV), a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus. This disease is of significant concern due to its zoonotic transmission, which can be challenging to control, its ...

Changes in HIV‐1 Reservoir Dynamics After Mpox Infection

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT In May 2022, a large outbreak of monkeypox virus (MPXV) occurred in several non‐endemic regions worldwide. Another outbreak in 2024 raised global concerns, particularly for immunocompromised individuals like people with HIV (PWH). Since the latent HIV‐1 reservoir remains a major barrier to a cure, we investigated how past mpox infection ...

A bivalent Mpox nanoparticle vaccine induces robust immune response and provides long-lasting protection against vaccinia virus challenge

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections
The 2022 and 2024 monkeypox (mpox) outbreak highlighted the urgent need for effective, durable, and safe vaccines. In addition to the traditional smallpox vaccines that could bring cross-protection against mpox, mRNA and protein-subunit mpox vaccines ...

Monkeypox (Mpox): Diagnosis and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesThe Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine
Monkeypox (Mpox) has once again been designated a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) as of August, 2024. The severity of the disease is underscored by its significant mortality rate, and unfortunately, there are no targeted therapeutics currently available for this viral infection.

The Stigmatisation of Men Who Have Sex With Men in the Spread of Mpox: Are We Repeating the Mistakes of HIV?

open access: yesNursing Open, Volume 12, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The 2022 mpox outbreak disproportionately affected men who have sex with men (MSM), leading to targeted public health interventions. While data supported prioritising MSM, this focus risks reviving stigmatisation reminiscent of the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Self-reported Infection Status, Knowledge and Associated Factors of Monkeypox Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Jiaxing, China

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background As of September 2023, more than 1,000 cases of monkeypox (mpox) have been reported in China. Based on the available evidence, men who have sex with men (MSM) are at high risk for mpox infection.

Mpox and Surgery: Protocols, Precautions, and Recommendations

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Mpox, also known as Monkeypox, is an infectious disease known to spread via direct contact and fomites, which poses a significant contagion risk in surgical settings and may increase the challenges already posed by COVID-19.

Coupling wastewater‐based epidemiology with data‐driven machine learning for managing public health risks

open access: yesRisk Analysis, Volume 45, Issue 10, Page 2974-2982, October 2025.
Abstract Traditional health surveillance methods play a critical role in public health safety but are limited by the data collection speed, coverage, and resource requirements. Wastewater‐based epidemiology (WBE) has emerged as a cost‐effective and rapid tool for detecting infectious diseases through sewage analysis of disease biomarkers.

Monkeypox virus-associated meningoencephalitis diagnosed by detection of intrathecal antibody production

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background In the 2022 mpox-outbreak most patients presented with mild symptoms. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement has previously been described as a rare and severe complication of mpox; however, diagnostic findings in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF ...
