Mr-brake with permanent magnet as passive actuator for haptics
2013 World Haptics Conference (WHC), 2013In haptics applications, fast, stable and crisp force responses are desired. Magnetorheological (MR) brakes are viable actuators for haptics since they provide high torque-to-volume ratios with fast response. However, they tend to be rather large and use high current inputs.

Design of a Novel MR Rotary Brake
2009 WRI World Congress on Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2009In this paper, a novel MR (magneto Rheology)rotary brake is introduced. A conventional MR brake is equipped with coil, drive and power supply, so,external current should be applied into the coils. But the proposed system has its own generator, so no external current source is not needed.

Design and analysis of an MR rotary brake for self-regulating braking torques
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2017This paper presents a novel Magneto-rheological (MR) brake system that can self-regulate the output braking torques. The proposed MR brake can generate a braking torque at a critical rotation speed without an external power source, sensors, or controllers, making it a simple and cost-effective device.

Pneumatic actuator with embedded MR-brake for haptics
2017 IEEE World Haptics Conference (WHC), 2017A pneumatic cylinder with an embedded magnetorheological (MR) brake has been developed. The new hybrid actuator benefits from the advantages of MR-brakes and pneumatic cylinders. It can apply forces using compressed air and can resist external forces using the MR-brake.

Energy-saving control of an unstable valve with a MR brake
Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005In fluid power systems, excessive heat often causes solenoid failure. Heat, as well as useful power of a solenoid, is associated with the current. In this paper, we attempt to alleviate the requirement for the solenoid power, thus reducing the heat generation accordingly.

Optimization and design of disk-type MR brakes
International Journal of Automotive Technology, 2011In this paper, first a new design for a disk-type magneto-rheological (MR) brake for automotive applications is proposed and then, a finite element analysis is performed to analyze the resulting magnetic field intensity distribution within the MR brake configuration.

Development of an MR-brake-based haptic device
Smart Materials and Structures, 2006This paper describes the design, testing and modelling of a magneto-rheological (MR) fluid brake as well as its application in a haptic device. The MR device, in disc shape, is composed of a rotary shaft and plate, an electromagnetic coil, MR fluids, and casings.
