Degradation of mRNA in eukaryotes
Based on the above mechanisms of mRNA degradation, an integrated model of mRNA turnover can be proposed (Figure 1). In this model, all polyadenylated mRNAs would be degraded by the deadenylation-dependent pathway at some rate. In addition to this default pathway, another layer of complexity would come from degradation mechanisms specific to individual ...

We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Adaptive ERK reactivation hinders FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we report that FLT3 TKI treatment rapidly induces AXL expression and upregulation that is temporally associated with the adaptive ERK reactivation.

Cx26 keratitis ichthyosis deafness syndrome mutations trigger alternative splicing of Cx26 to prevent expression and cause toxicity in vitro [PDF]
The Cx26 mRNA has not been reported to undergo alternative splicing. In expressing a series of human keratitis ichthyosis deafness (KID) syndrome mutations of Cx26 (A88V, N14K and A40V), we found the production of a truncated mRNA product.

Expression of the Thyroid Hormone Receptor Gene, erbAα, in B Lymphocytes: Alternative mRNA Processing is Independent of Differentiation but Correlates with Antisense RNA Levels [PDF]
The erbAα gene encodes two α-thyroid hormone receptor isoforms, TRα1 and TRα2, which arise from alternatively processed mRNAs, erbAα1 (α1) and erb α2 (α2).

RNA-Binding protein HuR and the members of miR-200 family play an unconventional role in the regulation of c-Jun mRNA [PDF]
Post-transcriptional gene regulation is a fundamental step for coordinating cellular response in a variety of processes. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are the most important factors responsible for this regulation.

A career in (mRNA) decay [PDF]
My entry into the RNA world began in 1967 when a visiting lecturer at the University of Toronto, the late Dr. Gordon Tener, inspired my interest in RNA. Various aspects of RNA biology, from ribosomes to plant viruses, occupied my attention during the early stages of my career.

Selection of suitable reference genes for real-time PCR studies of early developmental stages of sturgeons [PDF]
In quantitative real-time PCR, the mRNA level can be quantified in relative terms based on the expression ratio of mRNAs of the target gene and an internal reference gene.
