Plant mucilage components and their functions in the rhizosphere

Rhizosphere, 2021
This study aimed at analyzing the proportion of root and seed mucilage components and their functions in the rhizosphere. In total, polysaccharides (78.4%), proteins (7.3%), minerals (5.6%), and lipids (3.1%) constitute 94.3% of the mucilage composition.

Biodegradable composite films based on mucilage from Opuntia ficus-indica (Cactaceae): Microstructural, functional and thermal properties.

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2023
This study evaluated the feasibility of using cactus mucilage (CM) to elaborate biobased composite films blended with styrene-butadiene rubber latex (SBL). The CM was extracted and precipitated with ethanol (CMET) and isopropanol (CMIS).

Automated mucilage extraction index (AMEI): a novel spectral water index for identifying marine mucilage formations from Sentinel-2 imagery

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2023
Marine mucilage that threatens marine habitats is one of the natural disasters, mainly resulting from global warming and marine pollution. Monitoring sea surface mucilage formations and mapping their spatial distributions provide valuable information to ...

Mucilage microcosms

Science of The Total Environment, 2005
In the summers of 2000, 2001 and 2002, large amounts of sticky mucilaginous material aggregated to form masses of impressive dimensions over large areas of the Adriatic Sea, particularly in its northern part. Aggregates differing in size were sampled by SCUBA divers and submitted to chemical (nutrient and organic matter concentrations) and biological ...
