Heterologous expression of astaxanthin biosynthesis genes in Mucor circinelloides

open access: yesApplied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2005
Most Mucor species accumulate beta-carotene as the main carotenoid. The crtW and crtZ astaxanthin biosynthesis genes from Agrobacterium aurantiacum were placed under the control of Mucor circinelloides expression signals. Expression vectors containing the bacterial genes were constructed, and PEG-mediated transformations were performed on a selected M.

Antagonistic activity of Trichoderma harzianum against Aspergillus parasiticus and Mucor circinelloides in corn plant (Zea mays L.)

open access: yesPLANTA TROPIKA
Aspergillus parasiticus, the causative agent of Aspergillus cob rot, and Mucor circinelloides, which causes Mucor stem rot, are types of pathogenic fungi that have the potential to reduce the quality of corn (Zea mays L) harvests.

UV‐C Inactivation of Target Bacteria and Fungi Screened via Selenium‐Sand Melon Surface Metagenomics With Modeling of Fungal Inactivation Kinetics

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
We investigated microbial community structure of selenium sand melon (SSJ) inNingxia. We found that UV‐C had significant inactivation effect on many microorganisms in SSJ. The SWeibull2 model was the best fit to the fungal inactivation curve by fitting a variety of models.

Lethal Case of Bourbon Virus Leading to Shock and ECMO Utilization

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
We present a lethal case of Bourbon virus infection in a 63‐year‐old Caucasian, diabetic male who was previously in good health. The patient had spent time in the wooded areas of Bourbon County, Kansas, and removed three ticks from his body 5 days prior to presentation.

Polycistronic Expression System for Pichia pastoris Composed of Chitino- and Chitosanolytic Enzymes

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Chitin is one of the most abundant biopolymers. Due to its recalcitrant nature and insolubility in accessible solvents, it is often considered waste and not a bioresource. The products of chitin modification such as chitosan and chitooligosaccharides are

Metagenomic Profiling and Genome‐Centric Analysis Reveal Iron Acquisition Systems in Cheese‐Associated Bacteria and Fungi

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study describes the diversity of iron acquisition systems in cheese microorganisms and provides information on the distribution of siderophore biosynthesis pathways in both bacteria and fungi, including poorly characterised species. ABSTRACT Cheese microbial communities are composed of diverse interacting microorganisms, including both inoculated ...

Improved γ-linolenic acid production in Mucor circinelloides by homologous overexpressing of delta-12 and delta-6 desaturases

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2017
Background γ-Linolenic acid (GLA) is important because of its nutritional value and medicinal applications. Although the biosynthetic pathways of some plant and microbial GLA have been deciphered, current understanding of the correlation between ...
