Treatment with Plasma Activated (Salt) Water Sterilizes Macromolecular Coatings While Maintaining Their Integrity and Functionality

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
PDMS samples were covalently coated with mucin glycoproteins and then treated with either plasma activated water (PAW) or saline (PAS) as a means of disinfection. The samples could be successfully sterilized without compromising the structural integrity or functionality of those coatings.

The gut wall provides an effective barrier against nanoparticle uptake

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2014
Background: The omnipresence of nanoparticles (NPs) in numerous goods has led to a constant risk of exposure and inadvertent uptake for humans. This situation calls for thorough investigation of the consequences of NP intake.

Efficacy of Achieving Pregnancy with Fertility-Focused Intercourse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose: To compare pregnancy rates when women have intercourse on self-estimated high and peak fertile days and when they only have intercourse on low fertile days during the fertile window (FW).

Mucosa‐Interfacing Capsule for In Situ Sensing the Elasticity of Biological Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A fundamental mechanism of palpating soft materials is reported to sense deep tissue elasticity in situ with minimal invasion using the interaction between the robot palpation unit and soft tissues. Both the robot locomotion and elasticity sensing functions are remotely controlled by external magnetic fields, while the sensing data are wirelessly ...

Eosinophilic mucus diseases

open access: yesAllergology International
Eosinophilic inflammation is primarily characterized by type 2 immune responses against parasitic organisms. In the contemporary human being especially in developed countries, eosinophilic inflammation is strongly associated with allergic/sterile inflammation, and constitutes an undesired immune reaction.

Experimental models to study intestinal microbes-mucus interactions in health and disease.

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Reviews, 2019
A close symbiotic relationship exists between the intestinal microbiota and its host. A critical component of gut homeostasis is the presence of a mucus layer covering the gastrointestinal tract.

Spider Silk–Integrated Biomimetic Micropillars With Dual Adhesion for Improved Wound Hemostasis and Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The patch mimics the dual physicochemical adhesion mechanisms of gecko toe micropillars and spider silk proteins, enabling strong interfacial bonding via partially cured micropillars. Its facile fabrication allows customization for precision medicine, while its motion responsiveness offers potential for real‐time wound monitoring.
