Mueller matrix polarimetry for characterization of skin tissue samples: A review

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy, 2020
Mueller matrix polarimetry (MMP) has emerged as a simple, fast and non-invasive optical tool in basic and preclinical research whereby polarized light measurements are used to characterize biological samples. The skin tissue being exposed can be easily sampled, and the highly anisotropic nature of its ultra-structural components (e.g., the dense ...

Model for the depolarizing retarder in Mueller matrix polarimetry

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2022
We advance an analytical model describing the polarimetric response of a depolarizing retarder whose retardance varies spatially in magnitude or in orientation. The variation of the retarder parameters may be either of deterministic or of random nature. The model provides both the mean values and the uncertainties of the parameters.

Determination of Mueller Matrix for Metal Substrates by Stokes Polarimetry

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2021
This article focuses on a polarization measurement method based on Mueller calculus for determining the polarization properties of metal substrates. As the Mueller matrix of a medium provides all its polarization-altering properties, the presented method enables to predict the effect of any optically absorbing media on the polarization state of light ...

Characterization of cervical tissue using Mueller matrix polarimetry

Lasers in Medical Science, 2023
The cervix is composed of layers of squamous epithelium and connective tissue. The main component of the cervical connective tissue is collagen, which has specific orientations in different parts of the cervix and provides mechanical strength. Cervical pathologies such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), cancer, pregnancy, and spontaneous ...
