Preparation of mullite whiskers reinforced SiC/Al2O3 composites by microwave sintering [PDF]

open access: yesProcessing and Application of Ceramics, 2016
Mullite whiskers reinforced SiC/Al2O3 composites were prepared by microwave sintering in a microwave chamber with TE666 resonant mode. Original SiC particles were coated with SiO2 using sol-gel processing and mixed with Al2O3 particles.

Comparison of solidification behavior of synthetic mullite and mullite-forming raw materials by aero-acoustic levitation

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2023
Fused mullite is used in refractories and as an abrasive due to its suitable properties. Mullite is formed over a wide range in the Al2O3–SiO2 phase system, preferably as 3:2 or 2:1 mullite.

Solid-state NMR characterisation of the thermal transformation of a Hungarian white illite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
1H, 27Al, 29Si and 39K solid-state NMR are reported from a Hungarian illite 2:1 clay for samples heated up 1600 °C. This single-phase sample has a small amount of aluminium substitution in the silica layer and very low iron-content (0.4 wt%).

A novel hollow alumina sphere-based ceramic bonded by in situ mullite whisker framework

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
In this study, a novel hollow alumina sphere-based ceramic enhanced by in situ mullite whisker framework was recommended. Hollow alumina spheres selected as the main pore-forming agent were bonded together by an active mullite powder at high temperature.
