Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A New Scheme to Generate Multi-Frequency Mm-Wave Signals Based on Cascaded Phase Modulator and I/Q Modulator

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
We propose a new scheme to generate multi-frequency vector mm-wave signals based on cascaded phase modulator and I/Q modulator by adopting independent-sideband (ISB) modulation scheme.

Should Analogue Pre-Equalisers be Avoided in VLC Systems?

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2020
Visible light communication (VLC) systems are highly constrained by the limited 3-dB bandwidth of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Analogue pre-equalisers have been proposed to extend the LED's bandwidth at the cost of reduced signal-to-noise ratio ...

Photonics-based reconfigurable multi-band linearly frequency-modulated signal generation

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
A photonics-based multi-band linearly frequency-modulated (LFM) waveform generator with reconfigurable center frequency, bandwidth and time duration is proposed and demonstrated. By introducing two coherent optical frequency combs (OFCs) with a frequency shift and different free spectral ranges (FSRs) as multi-frequency optical LOs, a set of LFM ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Design of a tri-band single-loop load-modulated Doherty power amplifier

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal
This article presents a novel tri-band Doherty power amplifier (DPA) architecture based on a single-loop L-C load modulation network. By introducing additional current and power combining nodes, this architecture enhances the degrees of freedom and ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Multi-level pulse position modulation scheme for enhancing link capacity in electromagnetic nanocommunication networks

open access: yesICT Express, 2022
In this letter, a new nanocommunication modulation scheme termed multi-level pulse position modulation (ML-PPM) is proposed. The ML-PPM approach will boost the link capacity of a nanocommunication system while achieving a processing gain in reception ...

Music and vocal separation using multiband modulation based features [PDF]

open access: yes2010 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ISIEA), 2010
The potential use of non-linear speech features has not been investigated for music analysis although other commonly used speech features like Mel Frequency Ceptral Coefficients (MFCC) and pitch have been used extensively. In this paper, we assume an audio signal to be a sum of modulated sinusoidal and then use the energy separation algorithm to ...
