Large-effective-area uncoupled few-mode multi-core fiber [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
Characteristics of few-mode multi-core fiber (FM-MCF) were numerically analyzed and experimentally confirmed. The cores of FM-MCF were designed to support transmission of LP(01) and LP(11) modes from the point of bending loss of LP(11) and LP(21) modes. Inter-core crosstalk between LP(11) mode was calculated to determine core pitch of fibers.

Multi-mode photonic crystal fibers for VCSEL based data transmission

open access: yes, 2003
Quasi error-free 10 Gbit/s data transmission is demonstrated over a novel type of 50 micron core diameter photonic crystal fiber with as much as 100 m length.

Assessment of Flex-Grid/MCF optical networks with ROADM limited core switching capability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The majority of the research studies on Flex-Grid over multi-core fiber (Flex-Grid/MCF) networks are built on the assumption of fully non-blocking ROADMs (FNB-ROADMs), able to switch any portion of the spectrum from any input core of any input fiber to ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

High-count Multi-Core Fibers for Space-Division Multiplexing with Propagation-Direction Interleaving [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
By introducing a square lattice structure for bidirectional core assignments in multi-core fibers, the e ectiveness of propagation-direction interleaving for crosstalk reduction can be increased, realizing a 24-core fiber with-30.6 dB crosstalk over 100 ...

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Choosing a Better Delay Line Medium between Single-Mode and Multi-Mode Optical Fibers: the Effect of Bending [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Optical fiber cables are materials whose core is made of silica and other materials such as chalcogenide glasses; they transmit a digital signal via light pulses through an extremely thin strand of glass.

Effectiveness of rTMS on Working Memory and Inhibitory Impairments in Patients With Post‐Stroke Executive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing effective treatments for post‐stroke executive impairment (PSEI), among which repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown great potential. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of high‐frequency rTMS on working memory (WM) and response ...
