Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Political Disagreement and Delegation in a Multi-Level Governance Setting [PDF]

open access: yes
A large share of delegation models takes into account the effect of political disagreement when explaining delegation. Yet, delegation models make sharply contrasting predictions on how political disagreement translates into the level of discretion ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Adolescents’ values of children and their future plans to have children: A multi-level perspective

open access: yes, 2008
The value-of-children approach relates reasons for having children (= values of children, VOCs) to fertility behavior. Several studies have shown that on the cultural as well as on the individual level economic-utilitarian VOCs are related to higher ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

The Multi-level Governance of Child Poverty. How Is Italy Countering this Phenomenon through the Vertical and Horizontal Dimensions of MLG

open access: yes, 2022
reservedIn Italy, in 2020 1.3 million children live in absolute poverty. A number which has kept growing in the past decade and which got worse due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Research shows how investing in children is a crucial strategy to promote a fair

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

DESIRE: Modelling Multi-Agent Systems in a Compositional Formal Framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
This paper discusses an example of the application of a high-level modelling framework which enables both the specification and implementation of a system's conceptual design.
