Mechanistic Origins of Chemo‐Mechanical Instability and Failure in Solid‐State Lithium‐Sulfur Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conversion‐induced sulfur expansion generates strong mechanical constraints and localized stresses within solid‐state Li‐S cathodes. Heterogeneous solid‐electrolyte confinement creates tensile strain‐energy hotspots that govern particle cracking. Larger sulfur particles accelerate fracture, while higher porosity relaxes constraint and delays damage ...

Image source detection for geoacoustic inversion by Teager-Kaiser energy operator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This letter presents an improvement of the image source method (ISM) for geoacoustic inversion. The new algorithm is based on the Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator which ampli es the discontinuities in signals while the soft transitions are reduced.

Guanosine‐Quadruplex Hydrogels as Dynamic, Mechanically Tunable and Ion Conductive 3D Scaffolds for Cell Culture Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Versatile guanosine‐quadruplex (GQ) hydrogels are developed as dynamic biomatrices for cell culture. These scaffolds are fabricated under mild aqueous conditions, present improved stability, tunable mechanical properties within physiological ranges; fibrillar, porous microstructure, ion conductivity, and cytocompatibility.

Multi-parameter full waveform inversion using Poisson

open access: yes, 2016
In multi-parameter full waveform inversion (FWI), the success of recovering each parameter is dependent on characteristics of the partial derivative wavefields (or virtual sources), which differ according to parameterisation.

A note on the Smarandache inversion sequence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In a recent paper, Muneer introduced the Smarandache inversion sequence. In this paper, we study some properties of the Smarandache inversion sequence. Moreover, we find the necessary and su±cient condition such that [SI(n)]2 + [SI(n + 1)]2 is a perfect

Defect‐Mediated Inelastic Light Scattering by Infrared Phonons in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optically active defects in hexagonal boron nitride enable inelastic stimulated light scattering mediated by infrared‐active phonons, relaxing conventional Raman selection rules. Defect engineering enhances the Stokes‐conversion process and activates both TO‐ and LO‐phonon scattering channels.

Inverse Methods: a Powerful Tool for Evaluating Aerosol Data, Exemplified on Cases With Relevance for the Atmosphere and the Aerosol Climate Effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
For a complete description of a given aerosol, more than one parameter is necessary, e.g. parameters concerning size distribution, chemical composition, and particle morphology.

Multi-outcome homodyne detection in a coherent-state light interferometer

open access: yes, 2019
The Cram\'{e}r-Rao bound plays a central role in both classical and quantum parameter estimation, but finding the observable and the resulting inversion estimator that saturates this bound remains an open issue for general multi-outcome measurements ...

Role of Structural Disorder on Phonon Transport and Thermal Conductivity in Li6PS5Br

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solid electrolytes are fast ion and slow heat conductors. Although both transport properties are governed by lattice dynamics and atomic structure, their interplay remains poorly understood. Here, we study this interrelation in anion‐ordered and disordered Li6PS5Br.

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...
