A Situational Assessment of the Diagnostic Landscape and Organizational Readiness to Implement Next‐Generation Sequencing at Two Childhood Cancer Treatment Centers in Ghana

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) has emerged as a promising approach to improve diagnostic accuracy, but its feasibility in low‐ and middle‐income countries remains unknown. This study characterized the diagnostic landscape and assessed organizational readiness for NGS implementation at two childhood cancer treatment centers in Accra ...

Scalable Analysis for Multi-Scale Dataflow Models [PDF]

open access: yesACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems, 2018
Multi-scale dataflow models have actors acting at multiple granularity levels, e.g., a dataflow model of a video processing application with operations on frame, line, and pixel level. The state of the art timing analysis methods for both static and dynamic dataflow types aggregate the behaviours across all granularity levels into one, often large ...

Multi scale attention driven DACDiff+ distributed power FDIAs defense model

open access: yesDiscover Artificial Intelligence
This paper proposes a novel defense model called DACDiff + to address false data injection attacks (FDIAs) in distributed power systems. This model integrates multi-scale attention mechanism and dynamic adaptive diffusion model, which can effectively ...

Multi-Scale Variability Analysis of Wheat Straw-Based Ethanol Biorefineries Identifies Bioprocess Designs Robust Against Process Input Variations

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
Bioprocesses based on (ligno-)cellulosic biomass are highly prone to batch-to-batch variations. Varying raw material compositions and enzyme activities hamper the prediction of process yields, economic feasibility and environmental impacts.

Multi-scale modeling of dispersed gas-liquid two-phase flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this work the status of computational modeling of bubbly flows is reviewed. The theory of four different models is introduced and typical examples are given illustrating the capabilities of these models.

Impact of Radiation Therapy on Physical and Psychosocial Health of Adolescents and Young Adults: A Joint Report From the Children's Oncology Group AYA and Radiation Oncology Committees

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rates of cancer among adolescents and young adults (AYA), age 15–39 years, are increasing. Consequently, radiation oncologists are treating more AYAs who have diagnoses spanning both pediatric and adult practices. Compared to pediatric and older adult patients, AYAs face a unique set of challenges.

A hybrid approach to multi-scale modelling of cancer [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2010
In this paper, we review multi-scale models of solid tumour growth and discuss a middle-out framework that tracks individual cells. By focusing on the cellular dynamics of a healthy colorectal crypt and its invasion by mutant, cancerous cells, we compare a cell-centre, a cell-vertex and a continuum model of cell proliferation and movement.

Social Functioning Within the First Years After Pediatric Brain Tumor Diagnosis and the Relationship With Family Psychosocial Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Survivors of pediatric brain tumors (PBTs) can experience long‐term social difficulties, impacting quality of life. Beyond medical and environmental factors, family psychosocial risk may play a role in social outcomes by shaping the caregiving environment and may provide intervention options.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
