A multi-scale model of erythropoiesis
In this paper, a multi-scale mathematical model of erythropoiesis is proposed in which erythroid progenitors are supposed to be able to self-renew. Three cellular processes control erythropoiesis: self-renewal, differentiation and apoptosis. We describe these processes and regulatory networks that govern them.

The Tip of Dendritic Crystal in an Inclined Viscous Flow
We study the flow around the tip of a dendritic crystal by an inclined stream of viscous incompressible liquid. The tip shape is chosen accordingly to recent theory [Phil. Trans. R. Soc.

Multi-scale Modeling of Nutrient Pollution in the Rivers of China. [PDF]
Chinese surface waters are severely polluted by nutrients. This study addresses three challenges in nutrient modeling for rivers in China: (1) difficulties in transferring modeling results across biophysical and administrative scales, (2) poor ...

Computational fluid dynamics for dense gas-solid fluidized beds: a multi-scale modeling strategy [PDF]
Dense gas–particle flows are encountered in a variety of industrially important processes for large scale production of fuels, fertilizers and base chemicals.

Algorithms for Mobile Robot Localization and Mapping, Incorporating Detailed Noise Modeling and Multi-scale Feature Extraction [PDF]
Mobile robot localization and mapping in unknown environments is a fundamental requirement for effective autonomous navigation. Three different approaches to localization and mapping are presented.

Multi-scale Transformer Language Models
We investigate multi-scale transformer language models that learn representations of text at multiple scales, and present three different architectures that have an inductive bias to handle the hierarchical nature of language. Experiments on large-scale language modeling benchmarks empirically demonstrate favorable likelihood vs memory footprint trade ...

A Model for the Frequency Distribution of Multi-Scale Phenomena [PDF]
Frequency analysis is often used to investigate the structure of systems representing multi-scale real-world phenomena. In many different environments, functional relationships characterized by a power law have been recognized, but, in many cases this simple model has turned out to be absolutely inadequate and other models have been proposed.
