Microstructure and corrosion properties of Mg-4Zn-2Gd-0.5Ca alloy influenced by multidirectional forging

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019
Abstract The as-cast Mg-4Zn-2Gd-0.5Ca alloy mainly contained I phase and W phase, while the I phase dissolved into Mg substrate after homogenization treatment which improved the alloy’s corrosion resistance. After the application of multidirectional forging (MDF), the grains were refined obviously accompanied with the precipitation of I phase.

Influence of Multidirectional Forging on Microstructural, Mechanical, and Corrosion Behavior of Mg-Zn Alloy

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2019
Multidirectional forging (MDF) was applied to Mg-6%Zn alloy up to 5 passes successfully at 280 °C. MDF-processed materials were characterized using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, electron backscatter diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and x-ray diffraction. Obtained results showed a significant reduction in grain size (up

Microstructures and mechanical properties of SiCp/AZ91 magnesium matrix nanocomposites processed by multidirectional forging

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2015
Abstract A particulate reinforced magnesium matrix nanocomposite was subjected to multidirectional forging (MDF). The results showed that the microstructure of the nanocomposite mainly consisted of some large initial grains and fine recrystallized grains along initial grain boundaries after 1 MDF pass.

Multidirectional forging of AZ91 magnesium alloy and its effects on microstructures and mechanical properties

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2015
Abstract AZ91 alloy was subjected to multidirectional forging (MDF) and the relationship between microstructures and mechanical properties generated by MDF were investigated. The results showed that after 1 MDF pass grain size of the alloy decreased compared with as-cast alloy, and the amount of recrystallization grains increased when the MDF ...

Microstructure, Texture, and Mechanical Properties of AM60 Magnesium Alloy Processed by Extrusion and Multidirectional Forging

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2019
In the present paper, multidirectional forging (MDF), as a severe plastic deformation process, was carried out on an extruded AM60 magnesium alloy. The microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of the MDFed samples were examined. Microstructural findings indicated that the grain size of the alloy decreased from 10.2 to 3.7 µm after six MDF ...
