Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis

open access: yesMedical Clinics of North America, 2013
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) threatens to become the dominant form of tuberculosis in many parts of the world because of decades of inappropriate treatment on a global scale. Infection with MDR-TB is associated with poor outcomes because of delays in treatment and the need for complex, toxic, and long medication regimens.

Prolonged carriage of OXA-244-carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli complicates epidemiological investigations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Microbiology
The rapid increase of OXA-244-producing Escherichia coli, predominantly driven by genetically clustered isolates of sequence type (ST)38, has been observed in at least nine European countries, including Germany. However, the reasons for the spread of OXA-

Autophagy and Transporter-Based Multi-Drug Resistance

open access: yesCells, 2012
All the therapeutic strategies for treating cancers aim at killing the cancer cells via apoptosis (programmed cell death type I). Defective apoptosis endow tumor cells with survival. The cell can respond to such defects with autophagy.

Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance: Data Harmonisation and Data Selection within Secondary Data Use

open access: yesAntibiotics
Resistance to last-resort antibiotics is a global threat to public health. Therefore, surveillance and monitoring systems for antimicrobial resistance should be established on a national and international scale.

Activating alternative transport modes in a multidrug resistance efflux pump to confer chemical susceptibility

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Antibiotic resistance through multidrug efflux is a major hurdle in antibiotic development. Here, authors experimentally demonstrate that EmrE, a small multidrug resistance efflux pump from E.

Multidrug Resistance in Fungi: Regulation of Transporter-encoding Gene Expression

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
A critical risk to the continued success of antifungal chemotherapy is the acquisition of resistance; a risk exacerbated by the few classes of effective antifungal drugs.

Management of Antibiotic-Resistant Helicobacter pylori Infection: Perspectives from Vietnam

open access: yesGut and Liver, 2019
Antibiotic resistance is the most important factor leading to the failure of eradication regimens. This review focuses on the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori primary and secondary resistance to clarithromycin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, levofloxacin ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.
