A Multienzyme Complex for De Novo Purine Biosynthesis

1977
Multienzyme complexes are defined as aggregates of different functionally related enzymes integrated into highly organized structures by non-covalent bonds. Such a structural arrangement is considered to confer a catalytic advantage in that an unstable intermediate may be transferred more efficiently from one active site to the next.

The Escherichia coli RNA degradosome: structure, function and relationship in other ribonucleolytic multienzyme complexes.

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2001
mRNA instability is an intrinsic property that permits timely changes in gene expression by limiting the lifetime of a transcript. The RNase e of Escherichia coli is a single-strand-specific endo-nuclease involved in the processing of rRNA and the ...

The 2-oxoacid dehydrogenase multienzyme complex of Haloferax volcanii

Extremophiles, 2007
Those aerobic archaea whose genomes have been sequenced possess four adjacent genes that, by sequence comparisons with bacteria and eukarya, appear to encode the component enzymes of a 2-oxoacid dehydrogenase multienzyme complex. However, no catalytic activity of any such complex has ever been detected in the archaea.

Inhibitor evidence for allosteric interaction in the replitase multienzyme complex

Nature, 1983
We have previously shown that a fraction from the nuclei of S phase (DNA-synthesizing) Chinese hamster embryo fibroblasts (CHEF/18 cells) can be obtained that has a number of the enzyme activities required for DNA biosynthesis, and can catalyse the incorporation of labelled precursors into DNA (refs 1-4, also see ref. 8).

Regulation of the Mitochondrial Multienzyme Complexes in Complex Metabolic Systemsa

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1989
During the past two decades, I and the members of my laboratory have enjoyed very much contributing to the body of knowledge concerning the alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase complexes. We would hope that some of our work has allowed those interested in this area a perception as to how these interesting enzyme complexes are regulated in intact metabolic ...

Is the Chloroplast Fatty Acid Synthase a Multienzyme Complex?

1997
Prior to about 1982 it was often assumed that the enzymes of the chloroplast fatty acid synthase would be organized into some sort of multienzyme complex even though the absolute requirement of all known plant fatty acid synthase (FAS) preparations for added acyl carrier protein (ACP) precluded the type of complex observed in yeast and mammalian cells.

Lysosomal multienzyme complex: Biochemistry, genetics, and molecular pathophysiology

2001
Lysosomal enzymes sialidase (alpha-neuraminidase), beta-galactosidase, and N-acetylaminogalacto-6-sulfate sulfatase are involved in the catabolism of glycolipids, glycoproteins, and oligosaccharides. Their functional activity in the cell depends on their association in a multienzyme complex with lysosomal carboxypeptidase, cathepsin A.
