Tunable multimode-interference bandpass fiber filter
Optics Letters, 2010We report on a wavelength-tunable filter based on multimode interference (MMI) effects. A typical MMI filter consists of a multimode fiber (MMF) spliced between two single-mode fibers (SMF). The peak wavelength response of the filter exhibits a linear dependence when the length of the MMF is modified.

All-fiber multimode interference bandpass filter
Optics Letters, 2006A novel design for an all-fiber bandpass filter based on a multimode interference reimaging phenomenon is presented. The filter has achieved low insertion loss with adequate bandwidth and isolation for coarse wavelength-division multiplexing. The filter can easily be made with any central wavelength that is compatible with the single-mode fiber used ...

Multimode Interference of Bloch Surface Electromagnetic Waves
ACS Nano, 2020Integrated photonics aims at on-chip controlling light in the micro- and nanoscale ranges utilizing the waveguide circuits, which include such basic elements as splitters, multiplexers, and phase shifters. Several photonic platforms, including the well-developed silicon-on-insulator and surface-plasmon polaritons ones, operate well mostly in the IR ...

Slotted multimode-interference devices
Applied Optics, 2004We describe a novel modification of multimode-interference devices that has broad applicability. The modification involves introducing a slot (or slots), of a specific width and effective refractive index and at a specific position, that runs the longitudinal length of the multimode-interference region. Introducing N slots reduces the self-image length

Multimode interference in topological photonic heterostructure
Optics Letters, 2022In this Letter, topological photonic heterostructures, which are composed of finite-size photonic crystals with different topological phases, are proposed. The coupled topological edge states (CTESs), which originate from the coupling between topological edge states, are found.

Multimode interference devices with single-mode–multimode–multimode fiber structure
Applied Optics, 2014We present a single-mode-multimode-multimode (SMm) fiber structure with a few interesting device applications. Unlike the single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) structure, SMm has the unique feature of more than one mode in the output fiber. A detailed physical understanding of the transmission properties, and the differences from the SMS structure ...

Novel Multimode Interference Modulator
Frontiers in Optics, 2005A new structure for an ultra-compact MMI-based modulator is proposed. Extinction ratios as low as -37 dB are demonstrated. This value is only increased to -35 dB when low electro-absorption effects are included.

Multimode interference (MMI) devices
Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Frontiers of Information Technology, 2010Multimode interference effect and the principle of self-imaging can be exploited to create optical devices like couplers, splitters and filters. MMI devices have gained more importance in the past few years and have proved to perform better than other optical devices.

Tunable multimode interference devices
SPIE Proceedings, 2006A tunable multimode interference (MMI) coupler that operates by modifying the phase of the multiple images that are formed around the midpoint of the MMI section is demonstrated. The phase change is achieved by current injection, and therefore minimizing current spreading is crucial for optimal operation.
