Schlieren multimode fiber-optic hydrophone

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1980
A multimode fiber-optic hydrophone based upon a Schlieren intensity modulation mechanism is described. The device possesses sufficient sensitivity to detect the Knudson sea noise levels in the frequency range 100 Hz to 1 kHz and to detect static displacements as small as 2.5 × 1013 Å.

Elliptical core multimode optical fibers

2012 17th Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference, 2012
We propose a new elliptical core polarization maintaining multimode fiber design with low index trench. We analyze fiber properties such as birefringence, modal delay, bandwidth and mode coupling using a finite element method.

Multimode optical-fiber access port

Optical Fiber Communication, 1979
As progress is being made toward the development of fiber-optic systems, real applications are surfacing that require economical means to monitor and control the optical power propagating in a fiber. These applications include timedomain reflectometry,1 source stabilization,2 source linearization,3 wavelength multiplexing,4 branching networks,5 and ...

Pulse distortion characteristic of multimode optical fibers

Applied Optics, 1991
A fast and accurate numerical algorithm for calculating fiber group delay is described. This algorithm allows one to evaluate time and frequency responses. An example of a response obtained in such a way for real fiber is compared to the corresponding experimental data.

Multimode optical fiber chemical sensors

1995
Optical methods are some of the oldest and best established techniques for sensing chemical analytes, and have formed the basis for many chemical sensors. The development of inexpensive, high quality optical fibers for the communications industry has provided the essential component for a new technology -optical fiber sensors.
