Bandwidth scaling for fading multipath channels
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2002Summary: We show that very large bandwidths on fading multipath channels cannot be effectively utilized by spread-spectrum systems that (in a particular sense) spread the available power uniformly over both time and frequency. The approach is to express the input process as an expansion in an orthonormal set of functions each localized in time and ...

Signal detection in sparse multipath channels
2009 47th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2009In this paper, we revisit the problem of signal detection in multipath environments. Existing results implicitly assume a rich multipath environment. Our work is motivated by physical arguments and recent experimental results that suggest physical channels encountered in practice exhibit a sparse structure, especially at high signal space dimension (i ...

Spectrogram analysis of multipath fading channels
2015 IEEE 26th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2015The analysis of the Doppler power spectral density (PSD) of measured and simulated data is an important topic in the area of mobile radio channel modelling. In this paper, we estimate the Doppler PSD of multipath fading channels by using the concept of the spectrogram.

On OFDM Ranging Accuracy in Multipath Channels
IEEE Systems Journal, 2014Wireless networks with ranging and localization capabilities enable new applications. The performance of wireless ranging depends on both the transmission technique and the propagation channel. Understanding such dependence is crucial to the design of high-accuracy ranging algorithms.

SIMULATION OF A MULTIPATH COMMUNICATION CHANNEL
Інфокомунікаційні та комп’ютерні технології, 2023In the article, the simulation of a multipath communication channel with two bands or subbands (intervals) of frequencies, the system function of which is expressed in a closed form through elliptic functions. A multipath communication channel is a linear system with time various parameters.

Characterization of multipath fading channels: channels with specular components
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2005A set of parameters collectively called recentered normalized mean square correlation (RC-NMSR) are introduced to characterize the quality of multipath fading channels with nonzero specular components. The consideration of nonzero specular components requires nontrivial generalization of the parameters previously introduced for wide-sense stationary ...

Fuzzy channel estimation in multipath fading CDMA channel
11th IEEE International Symposium on Personal Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. PIMRC 2000. Proceedings (Cat. No.00TH8525), 2002We study a multipath fading CDMA channel and introduce a fuzzy tracking method to estimate the complex channel coefficients in the downlink. The receiver is the conventional RAKE. The results given by the traditional alpha tracker, differential demodulation and known coefficients are compared to each other.

Estimation of multipath channel response in frequency selective channels
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1989A novel discrete-time method is proposed for estimating the impulse response of a frequency-selective digitally modulated communication channel. The received signal is first demodulated and sampled and then the fourth-order cumulants of the resulting discrete-time sequence are estimated.

Mutual Information of Multipath Channels with Imperfect Channel Information
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2009Analysis of mutual information is important to wireless transmission over fading channels, and is usually done by assuming perfect channel state information (CSI) available at the receiver. In many practical applications, however, the CSI must be estimated by sending a limited number of pilot symbols and thus, can suffer from considerable inaccuracy ...

On the capacity of UWB over multipath channels
IEEE Communications Letters, 2005In this work we compute the information theoretic capacity C of binary orthogonal pulse position modulated (PPM) signals for ultra wideband (UWB) communications over multipath channels. We consider binary PPM signals with random energy and correlation values. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the capacity results.
