Numerical study on the pipe containing multiple aligned axial cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Failures due to the multiple cracks become a major concern in the pipeline industry and also in maintaining the pipeline integrity. The predictions of pipeline burst pressure in the early stage are very important in order to provide assessment for future

Multiple Cracks of a Thin Film on a Ductile Substrate

open access: yes, 2001
The present work proposes a Dugdale type model to theoretically predict the multiple cracks of a residually tensile stressed thin film on a ductile substrate.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Influence of cracks generation on the structural and optical properties of GaN/Al0.55Ga0.45N multiple quantum wells

open access: yes, 2006
Both cracked and crack-free GaN/Al0.55Ga0.45N multiple quantum wells (MQWs) grown on GaN template by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition have been studied by triple-axis X-ray diffraction, grazing-incidence X-ray reflectivity, atomic force microscope,

Multiple penny-shaped cracks interaction in a finite body and their effect on stress intensity factor

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper we investigate the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of multiple penny-shaped cracks in an elastic solid cylinder under mode I (axial tension) loading.

Fatigue Characteristics Analysis of Carbon Fiber Laminates with Multiple Initial Cracks

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In the entire wind turbine system, the blade acts as the central load-bearing element, with its stability and reliability being essential for the safe and effective operation of the wind power unit.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Evaluation of T-stress for cracks in elastic sheets

open access: yes, 2005
The T-stress of cracks in elastic sheets is solved by using the fractal finite element method (FFEM). The FFEM, which had been developed to determine the stress intensity factors of cracks, is re-applied to evaluate the T-stress which is one of the ...

Numerical Simulation of Mechanical Characteristics and Safety Performance for Pre-Cracked Tunnel Lining with the Extended Finite Element Method

open access: yesBuildings
The service performance of tunnel lining is affected by crack properties and development states. In this paper, numerical simulation models were established to investigate the mechanics characteristics and safety performance for lining structures under ...
