Wave Propagation in Stochastic Spacetimes: Localization, Amplification and Particle Creation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Here we study novel effects associated with electromagnetic wave propagation in a Robertson-Walker universe and the Schwarzschild spacetime with a small amount of metric stochasticity.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Generation of Motion of Drops with Interfacial Contact

open access: yes, 2015
A liquid drop moves on a solid surface if it is subjected to a gradient of wettability or temperature. However, the pinning defects on the surface manifested in terms of a wetting hysteresis, or first-order nonlinear friction, limit the motion in the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Rapid, highly specific and sensitive detection of human adenovirus using multiple cross displacement amplification coupled with CRISPR-Cas12a-based detection

open access: yesTalanta Open
Human adenoviruses (HAdV), particularly serotypes 3 and 7, are significant pathogens that cause respiratory tract infection. Here, we developed a novel HAdV diagnostic assay, termed HAdV-MCDA-CRISPR, by combining multiple cross displacement amplification

The toes of the ultra high energy cosmic ray spectrum

open access: yes, 1999
We study the effects of the galactic magnetic field on the ultra high energy cosmic ray propagation. We show that the deflections of the cosmic ray trajectories can have many important implications such as (de)magnification of the cosmic ray fluxes by ...

Rapid and sensitive detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa using multiple cross displacement amplification and gold nanoparticle-based lateral flow biosensor visualization [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2018
Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes nosocomial infections of burn patients and other immunocompromised individuals, but the conventional diagnosis of P. aeruginosa infection depends on time-consuming culture-based methods. Hence, a simple, fast, sensitive technique for detection of P. aeruginosa using multiple cross displacement amplification (MCDA) and gold

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Nonlinear motion and mechanical mixing in as-grown GaAs nanowires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report nonlinear behavior in the motion of driven nanowire cantilevers. The nonlinearity can be described by the Duffing equation and is used to demonstrate mechanical mixing of two distinct excitation frequencies. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the
