Direct PCR-Based VNTR Analysis of TPO Intron 10 for Rapid Detection of Maternal Cell Contamination in Prenatal Diagnosis. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Transl Sci
ABSTRACT Maternal cell contamination (MCC) in fetal specimens poses a major risk for misdiagnosis in prenatal genetic testing. Standard variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis of the thyroid peroxidase (TPO) gene intron 10 is informative for MCC detection but traditionally requires DNA extraction, limiting its use in resource‐limited laboratories.

In House Rapid, Simple Multiple-Locus Variable-Number Tandem Repeat Analysis (MLVA): A Reliable Tool for Enterobacter hormaechei Genotyping. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
We developed a new MLVA protocol targeting eight VNTR loci for the rapid and cost‐effective surveillance of Enterobacter hormaechei. Tested on diverse clinical isolates, it showed a discriminatory power comparable to MLST and was able to distinguish some strains within the same sequence type.

African‐origin protective haplotype for Alzheimer's disease in APOEε4 carriers [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background We have reported a statistical interaction between the African ancestry specific A allele at rs10423769 and APOEε4, where the presence of the A allele is associated with a reduction in AD risk up to 75% in APOEε4 homozygotes. The mechanism by which this variant confers protection could provide insights into new therapeutics for ...

Genetic diversity of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C ST-4821 in China based on multiple-locus variable number tandem repeat analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Neisseria meningitidis sequence type (ST)-4821 was first reported in China in 2003, and a new hyper-virulent lineage has been designated as the ST-4821 complex. A large number of N.

Application of multiple-locus variable number tandem repeat analysis to identify outbreak-associated Neisseria meningitides serogroup C sequence type 4821 in China. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis) serogroup C sequence type (ST)-4821 caused an outbreak in 2010 in Shandong province of China. Twenty-one non-outbreak-associated strains were isolated, along with twenty-eight N.

Multiple Locus Variable number of tandem repeat Analysis : a molecular genotyping tool for Paenibacillus larvae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
American Foulbrood, caused by Paenibacillus larvae, is the most severe bacterial disease of honey bees (Apis mellifera). To perform genotyping of P.larvae in an epidemiological context, there is a need of a fast and cheap method with a high resolution ...

The forest behind the tree: phylogenetic exploration of a dominant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain lineage from a high tuberculosis burden country. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundGenotyping of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates is a powerful tool for epidemiological control of tuberculosis (TB) and phylogenetic exploration of the pathogen.

Distribution of Mycobacterium leprae genotypes from Surabaya and Bandung Clinical Isolates by Multiple Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat Analysis

open access: yesDermatology Reports, 2019
Multiple Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat (VNTR) analysis has been proposed as a means of genotyping for tracking leprosy transmission due to tandem repeats’ potential as genetic markers to differentiate M. leprae strains.

IN SILICO DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-RESOLUTION MLVA TYPING SCHEME FOR ENTEROCOCCUS FAECIUM

open access: yesProblems of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, 2020
Emergence of enterococci as nosocomial pathogens is frequently associated with hospital outbreaks. Vancomycin resistance is especially perturbing as it limits the possible therapeutic options.

Molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium bovis in Cameroon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We describe the largest molecular epidemiological study of Bovine Tuberculosis (bTB) in a sub-Saharan African country with higher spatial resolution providing new insights into bTB. Four hundred and ninety-nine samples were collected for culture from 201
