Atlantic Salmon Alevins Experimentally Exposed to Salmon Gill Poxvirus Become Infected, With the Virus Targeting Epithelial Cells in the Gills, Oral Cavity and Skin

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Infection with salmon gill poxvirus (SGPV) can cause severe gill pathology, leading to respiratory distress and high mortality rates in salmon hatcheries, known as salmon gill poxvirus disease. While the infection has been documented in salmon at sea, broodfish and wild salmon, its occurrence in salmon alevins remains unreported.

Haplotype‐resolved genome and pan‐genome graphs reveal the impacts of structural variation on functional genome and feather colors in chickens

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2025.
This study built a Wenchang chicken haplotype genome and integrated it with 29 others to create a chicken pangenome atlas. Analysis of 354 chickens revealed 185,205 structural variations (SVs), with one‐third derived from homology‐based and transposable elements.

Type 1 Diabetes: A Guide to Autoimmune Mechanisms for Clinicians

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 27, Issue S6, Page 40-56, August 2025.
Abstract Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results from the destruction of pancreatic beta cells by autoreactive T lymphocytes, leading to insulin deficiency and lifelong insulin dependence. It develops in genetically predisposed individuals, triggered by environmental or immunological factors.

Heritability of sleep architecture based on home polysomnography

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 4, August 2025.
Summary We aimed to establish the heritability of polysomnography measures through the analysis of home polysomnography recordings from 648 participants in the Baependi Heart Study, a rural, family‐based, genetically admixed cohort based in the southeast of Brazil.
