A Multiple Shooting Descent-Based Filter Method for Optimal Control Problems

open access: yes, 2020
A direct multiple shooting (MS) method is implemented to solve optimal control problems (OCP) in the Mayer form. The use of an MS method gives rise to the so-called ‘continuity conditions’ that must be satisfied together with general algebraic equality and inequality constraints.

Self‐Regulated Learning Meets AI: Reinterpreting Self‐Regulation, Co‐Regulation, and Socially Shared Regulation in Human–AI Interaction

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advancing artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed learning and work, yet higher education and professional development programs have not systematically equipped learners for AI‐prevalent environments. This lack of preparation creates uncertainty regarding control, responsibility, trust, and accountability.

The Impact of Second-Order Analytical Derivatives on Regularized Direct Multiple Shooting Method for Impulsive Spacecraft Trajectory Optimization

open access: yesGuidance, Navigation and Control
While the first-order derivatives of an objective function and constraints have often been analytically provided in the gradient-based optimization algorithms, the joint use of the second-order derivatives can further improve the computational efficiency

Application of Generalized Polynomial Chaos for Quantification of Uncertainties of Time Averages and Their Sensitivities in Chaotic Systems

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
In this paper, we consider the effect of stochastic uncertainties on non-linear systems with chaotic behavior. More specifically, we quantify the effect of parametric uncertainties to time-averaged quantities and their sensitivities. Sampling methods for

A preconditioned Multiple Shooting Shadowing algorithm for the sensitivity analysis of chaotic systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics, 2018
We propose a preconditioner that can accelerate the rate of convergence of the Multiple Shooting Shadowing (MSS) method [1] . This recently proposed method can be used to compute derivatives of time-averaged objectives (also known as sensitivities) to ...

Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

An α-Model Parametrization Algorithm for Optimization with Differential-Algebraic Equations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
An optimization task with nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) was approached. In special cases in heat and mass transfer engineering, a classical direct shooting approach cannot provide a solution of the DAE system, even in a relatively ...

Direct multiple shooting transcription with polynomial algebra for optimal control problems under uncertainty

open access: yesActa Astronautica, 2020
This paper proposes a novel approach to the solution of optimal control problems under uncertainty (OCPUUs). OCPUUs are first cast in a general formulation that allows the treatment of uncertainties of different nature, and then solved with a new direct ...

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...
