Minimal Curvature Trajectories: Riemannian Geometry Concepts for Model Reduction in Chemical Kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In dissipative ordinary differential equation systems different time scales cause anisotropic phase volume contraction along solution trajectories. Model reduction methods exploit this for simplifying chemical kinetics via a time scale separation into ...

Enlarging the domain of convergence for multiple shooting by the homotopy method [PDF]

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 1980
The homotopy method is a frequently used technique in overcoming the local convergence nature of multiple shooting. In this paper sufficient conditions are given that guarantee the homotopy process to be feasible. The results are applicable to a class of two-point boundary value problems.

Three-Step Block Method for Solving Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
We propose a three-step block method of Adam’s type to solve nonlinear second-order two-point boundary value problems of Dirichlet type and Neumann type directly.

Agile Product Testing with Constrained Prototypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The means to acquire reliable functional information is a critical factor that differentiates product development time and cost. Thanks to advances in solid freeform fabrication techniques, industries can produce geometrically complex parts within ...

Global optimal control with the direct multiple shooting method

open access: yesOptimal Control Applications and Methods, 2017
SummaryWe propose to solve global optimal control problems with a new algorithm that is based on Bock's direct multiple shooting method. We provide conditions and numerical evidence for a significant overall runtime reduction compared to the standard single shooting approach.

Optimization and Analysis on Trajectory with Multiple Constraints for Hypersonic Air-vehicle

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
The trajectory optimization technology is one of the key technologies for hypersonic air-vehicle. There are multiple constraints in the process of hypersonic flight, such as uncertainty of flight environment, thermal current, dynamic pressure and ...

Investigating Multiple Solutions in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

open access: yes, 2014
Recent work has shown that the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) can possess several distinct solutions for certain values of its parameters.

The Ray Bundle method for calculating weak magnification by gravitational lenses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We present here an alternative method for calculating magnifications in gravitational lensing calculations -- the Ray Bundle method. We provide a detailed comparison between the distribution of magnifications obtained compared with analytic results and ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Quicksilver: Fast Predictive Image Registration - a Deep Learning Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper introduces Quicksilver, a fast deformable image registration method. Quicksilver registration for image-pairs works by patch-wise prediction of a deformation model based directly on image appearance.
