A CATALOG OF VISUAL DOUBLE AND MULTIPLE STARS WITH ECLIPSING COMPONENTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A new catalog of visual double systems containing eclipsing binaries as one component is presented. The main purpose of this catalog is to compile a complete list of all known multiples of this variety, both for current analysis and to highlight those in

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

TIC 290061484: A Triply Eclipsing Triple System with the Shortest Known Outer Period of 24.5 Days

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We have discovered a triply eclipsing triple-star system, TIC 290061484, with the shortest known outer period, P _out , of only 24.5 days. This “eclipses” the previous record set by λ Tauri at 33.02 days, which held for 68 yr.

MSC - a catalogue of physical multiple stars

open access: yes, 1997
The MSC catalogue contains data on 612 physical multiple stars of multiplicity 3 to 7 which are hierarchical with few exceptions. Orbital periods, angular separations and mass ratios are estimated for each sub-system.

Combined Nucleosynthetic Yields of Multiple First Stars

open access: yes, 2016
Modern numerical simulations of the formation of the first stars predict that the first stars formed in multiples. In those cases, the chemical yields of multiple supernova explosions may have contributed to the formation of a next generation star.

Protonophore activity of short‐chain fatty acids induces their intracellular accumulation and acidification

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Eclipsing Binaries in Multiple Star Systems [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
Although the majority of the known eclipsing binaries are in systems which consist of only the two eclipsing components, a significant number of them do occur as components of triple star systems or higher order multiple star systems. In this context this term is restricted to those systems whose components are in closed orbits.

Differential photometry of speckle-interferometric binary and multiple stars

open access: yes, 2005
A method for differential photometry of speckle-interferometric binary and multiple stars is presented. Both the accuracy and sources of systematic errors of the method are analysed. The photometric accuracy ranges between 0. m 02 and 0.

Circumbinary Molecular Rings Around Young Stars in Orion

open access: yes, 2007
We present high angular resolution 1.3 mm continuum, methyl cyanide molecular line, and 7 mm continuum observations made with the Submillimeter Array and the Very Large Array, toward the most highly obscured and southern part of the massive star forming ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to
