Diagnostic Performance of a Multiplex PCR assay for meningitis in an HIV-infected population in Uganda

open access: yesDiagnostic microbiology and infectious disease, 2015
Meningitis remains a worldwide problem, and rapid diagnosis is essential to optimize survival. We evaluated the utility of a multiplex PCR test in differentiating possible etiologies of meningitis.

Genome‐Wide CRISPR Screen Identifies a microRNA Orchestrating Pleiotropic Resistance to Targeted Therapy and T Cell Immunity in Melanoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A genome‐wide microRNA CRISPR screen identifies miR‐18a as a master regulator of cross‐resistance in melanoma. Loss of miR‐18a activates the AJUBA–YAP/Hippo axis to confer BRAFi resistance and enhances THBS1–CD47 interaction to impair CD8+ T cell immunity. hnRNP A1 is identified as an upstream regulator of miR‐18a processing.

Evaluating an MRNA based body fluid identification test using sybr green fluorescent dye and real-time PCR

open access: yes, 2011
The requirement to have more definitive and wider ranging body fluid identification (BFI) tests has resulted in a range of mRNA based real-time PCR BFI assays utilising Taqman fluorescent dye.

Multiple Colonization with S. pneumoniae before and after Introduction of the Seven-Valent Conjugated Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Simultaneous carriage of more than one strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae promotes horizontal gene transfer events and may lead to capsule switch and acquisition of antibiotic resistance. We studied the epidemiology of cocolonization with S.

DOT1L Drives Endothelial‐to‐Mesenchymal Transition and Fibrotic Vascular Remodeling via H3K79 Methylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
DOT1L as a central epigenetic regulator of EndoMT and pulmonary fibrosis. Acting as an early epigenetic switch, it translates TGFβ–SMAD signaling into H3K79me2‐mediated chromatin remodeling, selectively activates fibrosis‐related genes, and primes ECs for rapid mesenchymal transition.

Multiplex Detection of Aspergillus fumigatus Mycoviruses

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Mycoviruses are viruses that naturally infect and replicate in fungi. They are widespread in all major fungal groups including plant and animal pathogenic fungi. Several dsRNA mycoviruses have been reported in Aspergillus fumigatus.

New multiplex PCR methods for rapid screening of genetically modified organisms in foods

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
We present novel multiplex PCR methods for rapid and reliable screening of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). New designed PCR primers targeting four frequently used GMO specific sequences permitted identification of new DNA markers, in particular ...

Targeting Peptostreptococcus anaerobius with an Iron‐Based Nanozyme Reverses Ferroptosis Resistance and Enhances Antitumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An iron‐based nanozyme selectively eliminates intratumoral P. anaerobius while catalytically generating ROS to induce ferroptosis, synergistically suppressing colorectal cancer growth and activating anti‐tumor immunity through immunogenic cell death. ABSTRACT The intratumoral microbiota is a critical determinant of therapeutic outcomes in colorectal ...
