Functional Glyco-Nanogels for Multivalent Interaction with Lectins

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Interactions between glycans and proteins have tremendous impact in biomolecular interactions. They are important for cell–cell interactions, proliferation and much more.

Multivalent Interaction of Beta-Catenin With its Intrinsically Disordered Binding Partner Adenomatous Polyposis Coli

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2022
The Wnt signalling pathway plays key roles in cell proliferation, differentiation and fate decisions in embryonic development and maintenance of adult tissues, and the twelve Armadillo (ARM) repeat-containing protein β-catenin acts as the signal ...

Multivalent interaction and selectivities in selectin binding of functionalized gold colloids decorated with carbohydrate mimetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Colloidal gold particles with functionalized organic shells were applied as novel selectin binders. The ligand shell was terminated with different monocyclic carbohydrate mimetics as simplified analogs of the sLe(x) unit found in biological selectin ...

Bioinspired Polypeptide Dendrimer‐Modified Thin‐Film Composite Membranes for Selective Lithium‐Magnesium Separation with DFT Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated a biomimetic dendrimer‐modified thin‐film nanocomposite membrane with a coordination‐assisted ion‐selective interface. pH‐responsive polypeptide sites preferentially bind Mg2+ and promote Li+ permeation, as predicted by density functional theory calculations of metal‐ligand interactions.

A Multiple N-Glucosylated Peptide Epitope Efficiently Detecting Antibodies in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2020
Diagnostics of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) are essentially based on the gold standard magnetic resonance imaging. Few alternative simple assays are available to follow up disease activity.

Selective Enrichment of Hypermethylated DNA by a Multivalent Binding Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, 2022
The preselection of hypermethylated DNA (hmDNA) from liquid biopsy samples is key to enable early‐stage cancer diagnostics. Due to limited selectivity of the existing preselection approaches, however, wide integration in the clinic is currently ...

Carbohydrate specificity of sea urchin sperm bindin: a cell surface lectin mediating sperm-egg adhesion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
We have examined the carbohydrate specificity of bindin, a sperm protein responsible for the adhesion of sea urchin sperm to eggs, by investigating the interaction of a number of polysaccharides and glycoconjugates with isolated bindin.

Binding and Uptake into Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells of Peptide-Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
One of the most daunting challenges of nanomedicine is the finding of appropriate targeting agents to deliver suitable payloads precisely to cells affected by malignancies. Even more complex is to achieve the ability to ensure the nanosystems enter those

LL‐37 Driven Phase Transition and Stacking in Oligolamellar Gram‐Negative Bacterial Membrane Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes oligolamellar bacterial membrane models to investigate how LL‐37 disrupts the complex dual‐bilayer architecture of Gram‐negative bacteria. Combining SAXS, cryo‐TEM, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and coarse‐grained simulations, it reveals cardiolipin‐driven phase transitions leading to bicelle‐like structures and membrane ...

T cell recognition of nonpolymorphic determinants on H-2 class I molecules. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Recognition of polymorphic determinants on class I or class II MHC Ag is required for T lymphocyte responses. Using cell-size artificial membranes (pseudocytes) bearing H-2 class I Ag it is demonstrated that T cells can, in addition, recognize ...
