Acute Myeloid Leukemia With Plasmacytoid Differentiating Cutaneous Lesions: A Case of Double Identity or Active Transformation

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with plasmacytoid dendritic cell differentiation (pDC‐AML) is a newly described subtype of leukemia with features resembling blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN). Case Presentation Herein, we present a case of pDC‐AML in which bone marrow findings were best classified as AML, whereas ...

Bacterial Communities Associated With Crustose Coralline Algae Are Host‐Specific

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
Fifteen Indo‐Pacific crustose coralline algae (CCA) species surface microbial communities were characterised with 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and are distinct. The CCA surface microbiome primarily differentiate by algal host species, but core bacterial communities additionally correlated to host phylogeny.

Structural Insights Into the Nuclear Import of Gallid Alphaherpesvirus 1 Large Tegument Protein

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
The study identifies and characterizes a bipartite nuclear localization signal within the GaAHV‐1 UL36 large tegument protein, revealing its structural interaction with importin α/β1 and confirming a conserved mechanism of nuclear import through biochemical, crystallographic, and mutational analyses.

Deceptive beauty of non‐natural structures

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Structures of proteins and multiprotein complexes are considered landmark achievements. However, in many cases, mutant proteins are used for structural work. Even when wild type proteins are used, crystallization or complex formation for cryoEM is performed in highly nonphysiological conditions.

Stabilization versus flexibility: Detergent‐dependent trade‐offs in neurotensin receptor 1 GPCR ensembles

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Detergents provide essential membrane‐mimetic environments for studying G protein‐coupled receptors (GPCRs), but their molecular impact on receptor energetics remains incompletely understood. We combined ligand binding, thermostability measurements, and atomistic molecular dynamics to dissect detergent‐ versus ligand‐driven stabilization in a ...
